Introduction:
World Sight Day shortly WSD is the most important advocacy and communication event celebrated to
focus global attention on blindness and vision impairment. WSD is globally celebrated on second Thursday of
October every year. This year, WSD
is celebrated on 13th October with
theme #LoveYoursEye.
Pakistan Institute of Community
Ophthalmology (PICO) a member of
International Agency for the
Prevention of Blindness (IAPB)
organized different events and
activities to celebrate World Sight
Day with the purpose to enhance
mass awareness on eye health care
and on vision impairment.

List of World Sight Day activities:

Following activities were implemented under PICO umbrella to underline World Sight Day for creating mass
awareness for eye health care and on prevention of avoidable blindness.
1. Awareness-raising seminar
2. Cake cutting ceremony
3. Free Eye screening camps
4. School-level awareness sessions
5. Display and dissemination of
printed materials

Awareness raising seminar:

An awareness-raising seminar was held

in PICO on13TH October. The seminar

was attended by senior Ophthalmologist from Hayatabad Medical Complex, faculty members and students
from PICO. Prof. Lal Mohammad (Pro-Vice Chancellor of Khyber Medical University) was invited as a chief
guest to the occasion. He appreciated the role of PICO in c community awareness and improving eye health
care services in the province. He appreciated the efforts of Prof. Sanaullah (Director PICO) for bringing up
the institution and playing a proactive role in community ophthalmology. The event was also attended by

Prof. Zahid Aman (Dean KGMC/HMC) as a guest of honor. He highlighted the importance of eye sight testing
and appreciate the role of PICO in improving eye health care. The event is also attended by Prof.
Mohammad Naeem (Chairman Ophthalmology Department-HMC) and Prof. Shahaz Faisal (Hospital Director-
MTI-HMC Peshawar).

Free Eye screening camps:

PICO organized a free eye screening camp in District Charsadda in collaboration with CHEF International.
Hundred of patients were screened for eye health related diseases and free medicine and low visions were
given to the needy people.

Cake Cutting ceremony:

PICO also organized a cake cutting ceremony in the eve of WSD celebrations. Chief Guest prof. Lal
Mohammad of the seminar cut the cake and offers pieces to the participants
