Introduction to Esports: Task 2 – Structure.

In this research task you will explore how esports is organized and structured
in the UK. 

Students must fill out each box below to the expected minimum word count, all research
sources should be link at the bottom of each box, Wikipedia does not count as a research
source. Source links do not make up total word count of a question box.

What role does the government play?

The government has laid out plans to assist this industry by helping sort out visas as it has caused issues around the UK
for years now. The Government also said that it will develop its relationship with the sector, helping to identify,
promote, and exploit the areas that offer the most opportunities in the UK.

How is esports defined under UK law?

eSports is also known as electronic sport, which generally revolves around competitive and professional gaming. This
takes shape usually in the form of organised multiplayer video game tournaments, mainly between professional players.
These players are generally split into teams for example: Fnatic, G2, FaZe. Or sometimes these tournaments are just
teams of one but still have a team name.

What role do the British Esports Association play?

The British eSports association play the role of making eSports a possibility in schools and colleges. They help with
things like setting up clubs. They are a not-for-profit organisation so any revenue made is put directly back into the
running of the organisation. They also help educate the media, parents and teachers about eSports and what benefits it
holds.
 How does esports fit within the wider video game industry?

eSports influences the wider game industry by motivating players to become good at games that aren’t even an eSport
yet. This allows opportunity for further growth in the industry of eSports. Even single player games have the
competition there because games such as link or portal are great for speed running which I think is a huge opportunity
to gain an even bigger audience.

What tournaments take place in the UK?

There is a commonwealth Esports championship which takes place in the international convention centre.

Your lecturer will inform you of how to hand in on Moodle ready for the work to be
checked, this will also need to be uploaded to the Unit 1 page on your WIX website.
