Miami Beach Police Department, 1 100 Washington Ave, Miami Beach, Florida 33139, www.miamibeachfl.gov OFFICE OF THE CHIEF OF POLICE Tel: 305 673-7925, Fax: 305 673-7065

June 20, 2011

Addressee's Name Address City, State. Zip Dear ..., Please be advised that I have decided to make an immediate policy change in the MBPD's honorary officer award program as a result of recent concerns raised with police looking badges, equipment and identifications. These concerns have been expressed through several mediums, including a recent Sun Sentinel newspaper article, which focused on abuses associated with law enforcement type badges and police imposters. These concerns are not specific to one agency and its important to note that our Department has never experienced a problem with this issue, however I want to be proactive on these recent concerns and any perceptions associated with this matter. As one of the few select recipients of this departmental recognition, you are requested to return your MBPD issued honorary badge and/or identification as soon as practically possible. Your badge and identification will be affixed to a plaque and re-issued to you. I have made this decision based on several variables to include public perception, as well as protecting the Police Department and all of the individual recipients of this distinction from any undue scrutiny. I thank you for your understanding with this request as well as your cooperation. Your continued support of the MBPD is greatly appreciated. Sincerely,

Carlos Noriega Chief of Police
