Bacolod Central Integrated School
Participants 13 Teachers
Brief Description of the The school conducted LAC sessions on ELLN Digital
Program/Projects/Activities Courseware to 13 teachers who are handling Key Stage 1
learners. The sessions are focused on ELLN Digital
Courseware in which this software provides high-quality of
learning in both literacy and numeracy development.
Rationale Learning to read, write, and count is critical to a child’s
success in school and later in life. One of the best
predictors of school success is the level of a child’s
progress on these foundational skills. Although reading,
writing, and numeracy abilities increase as children grow,
the early childhood years, from birth to age eight, comprise
the most important period for language, literacy, and
numeracy development. The ability to read, write, and
count does not develop naturally, or without careful planning
and instruction. The availability and accessibility of age-
appropriate and culturally- sensitive materials for children
are extremely important to encourage the regular practice of
reading and counting.

The Department initiated a program that will develop Filipino

children in literacy and numeracy skills and attitudes which
will contribute to lifelong learning. More specifically, it aims
to improve reading and numeracy skills of Kinder to Grade 3
pupils, following K to 12 Basic Education Curriculum, and to
establish a sustainable and cost-effective professional
development system for teachers.
ELLN Digital Courseware aims to provide flexible, high-
quality training to hundreds of thousands of teachers
nationwide in a timely way, replacing the traditional face-to-
face cascade model. With this ELLN Digital blended
learning, no teacher will be excluded.

Thus, the Bacolod Central Integrated School LAC

coordinator planned a session on ELLN Digital Courseware
to the K to 3 teachers to equip their knowledge on
language, literary, and numeracy development of a child.
And so, they can understand and teach the learners the
way it should be.

Objectives 1. To introduce the ELLN Digital Courseware to the

teachers handling Key Stage 1 learners.
2. To discuss the features of the Digital Courseware
3. To explain the principles of early language, literacy,
and numeracy development and instruction.
4. To make instructional materials in both literacy and
numeracy.
Accomplishments and Outputs Teachers were assigned to create and produce instructional
materials in both literacy and numeracy.
The instructional materials produced are the following:
1. CVC Flip chart (literacy)
2. Flash cards (simple words and phrases)
