Introduction
Coronaviruses are a large family of viruses that are known to cause a wide range of illness from
the common cold to more severe diseases such as Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS)
and Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS).They are often zoonotic and several known
coronaviruses are circulating in animals that have not yet infected humans. A novel coronavirus
(COVID-19) is a new strain of coronavirus that has not been previously identified in humans.
The novel corona virus (COVID-19) outbreak, which was first detected in Wuhan, China, in
December 2019, has been evolving rapidly. On 30th of January 2020, the WHO Director-general
declared that the current outbreak constituted a public health emergency of international concern,
and on March 12, 2020 the outbreak of COVID-19 was declared a pandemic.

METHODOLOGY

Research Design
The Psychological Impact of Covid-19 Pandemic to selected BS Psychology students of Our
Lady of Fatima University of 2020- 2021 is quantitative research, thus show the possible
psychological impacts of Covid19 pandemic to the students. The researchers utilized the
Descriptive Research Design using quantitative approach in gathering information about the
present condition, Shona McCombes (2019), Defend descriptive research design as a purposive
process of gathering, practices, classifying, and tabulating data, Descriptive research aims to
accurately and systematically describe a population, situation or phenomenon. It can
answer what, where, when and how questions, but not why questions a descriptive research
design can use a wide variety of research method to investigate one or more variables. A
descriptive Type of research design according to Martyn Shuttleworth (2008) is a valid method
for researching specific subjects and as a precursor to more quantitative studies, Whilst the
results are always open to question and to different interpretations, descriptive research design
and allows observation without affecting normal behavior, These types of descriptive research
design are often used by anthropologists, psychologists and social scientists to observe natural
behaviors without affecting them in any way. The research involved survey questioners to the
selected Grade BS Psychology Students of Our Lady of Fatima University. *it is subjective rather
than objective, mental health, behaviors, feelings, surrounding of the participants will be
included. The information will be analyzed by the researchers to reach conclusion. The
researchers prepared survey questionnaires for the participants to be answered that will be
recorded and encode after, with the method, the researcher gather and discovered many important
information that will be used for the researcher, the method used was very helpful and was
analyzed, evaluated, and elaborated. This research would be used to see the impacts and
challenges faced by the students, and would be a help to those participants on learning how to
adapt in our new normal life style and learn how to deal with the psychological impact to them

Summary of Findings
1. According to the age of the respondents, 59.38 percent are under the age of 18

2. According to the data gathered from the gender of the respondents, the Covid-19 Pandemic has
an impact on both male and female respondents.

3. According to the data gathered, females experienced a higher level of stress than males prior to
the Covid-19 pandemic, regardless of age.

4. According to the data gathered, during the Covid-19 pandemic, in terms of demographic
profile of the respondents, 20-year-old respondents had the highest level of concern, both male
and female respondents, with a weighted mean of 46.75.

5. Based on the collected data, the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on respondents' mental
health shows that, regardless of age, both male and female respondents' results fall under the
depressed scale.

CONCLUSION

1. According to the data gathered, there are __ female respondents and __ male
respondents. The most common age group is 18 years old, accounting for more than half
of the sample population (59.38%).
2. According to the data in tables 2.1 and 2.2, female respondents outperform male
respondents. The researchers conclude that female respondents were more stressed than
male respondents prior to the Covid-19 pandemic. Women and men are both at risk for
various types of stress-related disorders, with women being more likely to suffer from
depression and anxiety. (T. Chaplin, K. Hong, et. Al. 2018)
Some researchers have hypothesized that higher psychological stress in females may be
partially due to their work and the care burden in home. (Shiyan Yan, Rui Xu, et. Al. ,
2021)
3. According to the data in tables 3.1 and 3.2, male respondents have higher score results
than female respondents. Due to the sudden changes in the environment, researchers
conclude that male respondents experienced a higher level of worry and/or anxiety than
female respondents during the Covid-19 Pandemic.

Many men are struggling to adjust to new and different roles, such as increased
caregiving responsibilities or assisting their children in adjusting to remote learning while
maintaining online work, household chores, and other responsibilities,". "Additionally,
the reduction of income and uncertainty surrounding investments and financial stability is
playing a large part in increasing men’s stress levels during pandemic” (Brian
Mastroianni, 2020)

4. According to the data in tables 4.1 and 4.2, the scores of both male and female
respondents are considered depressed. As a result, the researchers conclude that the
Covid-19 Pandemic affects students' psychological well-being regardless of age or
gender.

To back up this claim, the study "The Psychological Impact of the COVID-19 on
Students" found that the public's lack of knowledge of the COVID-19, combined with the
overwhelming news, can cause anxiety and fear. The general public may also experience
boredom, disappointment, and irritability as a result of the isolation measures. Depression
and anxiety are common mental health issues among university students. (Dr. Agnes
Yuen-Kwan Lai, 2020)
