2. Hannah was happy to finally win the sand castle competition.

3. Carmela finished in either third or fourth place.

5. Anya did better than Carbin.

6. Trey finished one places ahead of Carmela.

Solution 1: Clue1. Carbin is not finish either first or last place. In the following chart , Write X1 (means,

1st 2nd 3rd 4th 5th 6th

Trey

Anya

Carbin X1 X1

Carmela

Ben

Hannah
Solution2: Clue2. Hannah is the winner in the competition so Write check on the 1 st place in Hannah’s
row then write X2 to the rest places. Write X2 to 1 st row’s of Trey, Anya, Carbin, Carmela and Ben

1st 2nd 3rd 4th 5th 6th

Trey X2

Anya X2

Carbin X1 X1

Carmela X2

Ben X2

Hannah  X2 X2 X2 X2 X2

Solution3: Clue3. On the third clue it is not sure if Carmela is placed on the 3 rd or 4th place. The sure is
Carmela is not 2nd 5th and 6th places so write X3 to 2nd 5th 6th places in Carmela’s row.

Trey X2

Anya X2

Carbin X1 X1

Carmela X2 X3 X3 X3

Ben X2

Hannah  X2 X2 X2 X2 X2
Solution4: Clue4. Trey is the 3rd placer so that Carmela is the 4th placer. Write X4 to the 2nd 4th 5th 6th
place of Trey’s rows and also to the 3rd place of Anya, Carbin, Carmela, and Ben.

Anya X2 X4 X4

Carbin X1 X4 X4 X1

Carmela X2 X3 X4  X3 X3

Ben X2 X4 X4

Hannah  X2 X2 X2 X2 X2

Solution5: Clue5. Since Carbin has only 2 spot left and in Clue 5 said than Anya did better that Carbin,
Anya is the 2nd placer while Carbin was the 5th placer. Write check to the 2nd place in Anya’s row and X5
to the 5th and 6th row . While write check to the 5 th place in Carbin’s row and X5 to the 2 nd row.

1st 2nd 3rd 4th 5th 6th

Trey X2 X4  X4 X4 X4

Anya X2  X4 X4 X5 X5

Carbin X1 X5 X4 X4  X1

Carmela X2 X3 X4  X3 X3

Ben X2 X4 X4

Hannah  X2 X2 X2 X2 X2
FINAL SOLUTION: Since Anya is the 2nd placer and Carbin is the 5th placer Write X6 to 2nd and 5th place to
Ben’s row. As you can see Ben is the 6 th placer so write check 6th place of Ben’s row.

1st 2nd 3rd 4th 5th 6th

Trey X2 X4  X4 X4 X4

Anya X2  X4 X4 X5 X5

Carbin X1 X5 X4 X4  X1

Carmela X2 X3 X4  X3 X3
