I. I chose to run for the presidency at this moment of history because I believe deeply that we cannot

ourselves that so many of the disparities that exist in the African American community today can be
directly traced to inequalities passed on from an earlier generation that suffered under the brutal legacy

addition, blacks were excluded from unions, the police force, or fire departments. This meant that black
families could not accumulate any meaningful wealth to bequeath future generations.
