I. I chose to run for the presidency at this moment of history because I believe deeply that we cannot

solve the challenges of our time unless we solve them together – unless we perfect our union by

addition, blacks were excluded from unions, the police force, or fire departments. This meant that black

families could not accumulate any meaningful wealth to bequeath future generations.

American community does not just exist in the minds of black people. The legacy of discrimination,

current incidents of discrimination, and recent incidents of discrimination, while less apparent than in

the past, are present and must be addressed.

white Americans don’t feel that they have been particularly privileged by their race.
