THE MISER

A Miser, having got a large sum of gold, found a spot where he dug a hole and hid
it. His greatest pleasure was to go and look upon his treasure. He went there so
often that a thief, who had followed him, guessed there was something more than
ordinary in the place, came at night, found the treasure, and carried it off.
The next day, the miser realized his loss; he groaned, cried, and tore at his hair.
A neighbor heard his cries and asked what had happened.
The miser said His gold was stolen.
“Did you ever take any of it out?” asked the neighbor.
“No,” miser said, “I only came to look at it.”
“Then just look at the hole,” said the neighbor; “it will do you just as much good.”
