Q. No Questions Marks CO BL
PART A (Compulsory)
1 (a) In a catchment there are 5 rain gauge stations having the rainfall data 2 CO3 L5
58, 59, 60, 63 and 61 in the year 2018. Find the average rainfall in the
catchment.
1 (b) Write down the energy equation and explain its parameters. 2 CO4 L2
1 (c) What do you mean by critical flow, sub-critical flow and supercritical 2 CO4 L1
flow?
1 (d) Write down the Chezy’s expression and explain its parameters. 2 CO5 L2
1 (e) What is the difference between gradually varied flow and rapidly 2 CO4 L1
varied flow?
PART B (Any one)
2 (a) Water flows through a pipe AB of 1.2 m dia. and velocity 3 m/s passes 10 CO4 L5
through a pipe DC of dia. 1.5 m. At C pipe branch CD is 0.8 m in dia. and
carries 1/3 of flow in AB. The flow in velocity of CE is 2.5 m/s. Find the
volume rate of flow in pipe AB, velocity in BC, velocity in CD, dia. of CE.

2 (b) The discharge of water through a rectangular channel of width 8 m, is 10 CO5 L5

15 m3/s when the depth of flow of water is 1.2 m. Then calculate: -
i. Specific energy of flowing water
ii. Critical depth and critical velocity
