IV ADMIXTURE
PARENTERAL NUTRITION
• “ IV nutrition “, “ hyperalimentation”, “ artificial nutrition”
• - TOTAL VS PARTIAL
• Total parenteral nutrition (TPN) is used when someone needs
a complete supplement of nutrients. Peripheral parenteral
nutrition or partial parenteral nutrition (PPN) is a fluid that contains
some nutrients and is given through a peripheral vein in the arm
• - a method of feeding the patient by infusing all necessary mixture of
nutrients into the circulatory system , bypassing GIT.
ENTERAL TUBE NUTRITION
• Enteral nutrition generally refers to any method of feeding that uses the
gastrointestinal (GI) tract to deliver part or all of a person's caloric
requirements. It can include a normal oral diet, the use of liquid
supplements or delivery of part or all of the daily requirements by use of
a tube (tube feeding).

NUTRITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
• 1. ENERGY
• – glucose = 4kal /gram
• - lipids = 9kcal/gram
• - lipid emulsion in TPN = 10kcal/gram
• 2. AMINO ACID (Protein) = 4kcal/gram
• 3. WATER AND ELECTROLYTES = Potassium, Sodium , Cl-
• 4. Vitamins = (no VIT K)
• 5. Trace Elements =( no Fe+)
• 6. ROH= 7kcal/gram
Venous access
• PERIPHERAL LINE = FOR PPN
• CENTRAL LINE = FRO TPN (LARGE VEIN)
PARENTERAL ANTINEOPLASTIC
AGENTS
• I. ADMINISTRATION :
- Direct IV . (short or long infusion)
- SC,IM,IA

AGENTS
- II. HANDLING GUIDELINES
Laminar airflow hood ( vertical)

Laminar flow hoods (Clean Benches) provide a filtered airflow across the work area
that protects the sample from airborne contamination. ... In Vertical flow hoods, clean
filtered air moves downward from the filter surface on the top to the work surface.
• 2. All syringes and IV tubing :
A Luer lock syringe enables a needle to
be twisted onto the tip and be locked into
place, providing a secure connection and
preventing accidental removal of the
needle as well as accidental injection of
contents
• 3. PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT
• - CLOSE FRONT CUFF GOWNS
RESISTANT TO LIQUID PENETRATION
• - LATEX OR NITRILE GLOVES
• 4. Final Dosage adjustment : Vial, ampoule ,
directly in an adsorbent gauze pad
• 5. Priming Equipment = (IV tubing)
• Priming is a cleaning and preparation process
that involves cleaning
scientific equipment with the same liquid
chemical it will come into contact with during
the experiment.

• Hazardous= black
• Trace chemo= yellow
• Drain disposal= sink

6. WASH HANDS
7. PERSONNELS ARE MONITROES REGULARLY
