AT THE MERCY OF THE RIVER 
Ezekiel 47:1-12   (NKJV)
THE HEALING WATERS AND TREES

1   Then he brought me back to the door of the temple; and there was
water, flowing from under the threshold of the temple toward the east,
for the front of the temple faced east; the water was flowing from under
the right side of the temple, south of the altar. 2 He brought me out by
way of the north gate, and led me around on the outside to the outer
gateway that faces east; and there was water, running out on the right
side.

3 And when the man went out to the east with the line in his hand, he
measured one thousand cubits, and he brought me through the waters;
the water came up to my ankles. 4 Again he measured one thousand and
brought me through the waters; the water came up to my knees. Again
he measured one thousand and brought me through; the water came up
to my waist. 5 Again he measured one thousand, and it was a river that I
could not cross; for the water was too deep, water in which one must
swim, a river that could not be crossed. 6 He said to me, “Son of man,
have you seen this?” Then he brought me and returned me to the bank of
the river.

7 When I returned, there, along the bank of the river, were very many
trees on one side and the other. 8 Then he said to me: “This water flows
toward the eastern region, goes down into the valley, and enters the sea.
When it reaches the sea, its waters are healed. 9 And it shall be that
every living thing that moves, wherever the rivers go, will live. There
will be a very great multitude of fish, because these waters go there; for
they will be healed, and everything will live wherever the river goes. 10
It shall be that fishermen will stand by it from En Gedi to En Eglaim;
they will be places for spreading their nets. Their fish will be of the same
kinds as the fish of the Great Sea, exceedingly many. 11 But its swamps
and marshes will not be healed; they will be given over to salt. 12 Along
the bank of the river, on this side and that, will grow all kinds of trees
used for food; their leaves will not wither, and their fruit will not fail.
They will bear fruit every month, because their water flows from the
sanctuary. Their fruit will be for food, and their leaves for medicine.”

INTRO:

A body of water can be a very dangerous place. I remember once, when

I was about 10, that I nearly drowned in a flooded river. Recently, a 20-
year-old Japanese woman was killed when she climbed over a wall to
have her picture taken. She fell into the river and was swept over the
Niagara Falls. Her body has not been recovered. While searchers looked
for her body, they found the body of an unidentified male at the base of
the falls.

NIAGARA FALLS IN USA

That made me curious about just how many people had died in that
location, and I discovered that since 1850 over 5,000 bodies have been
recovered from Niagara Falls. Some of those deaths were accidental,
many were suicides, and a few were daredevils who tried to ride barrels,
or other contraptions over the falls. I read about one 7-year-old boy who
went over the falls in 1960 wearing a life preserver and survived. Suffice
it to say that if you ever get caught in the current of the Niagara River
near the top of the Falls, you are in serious trouble. There are some
dangerous bodies of water you want to avoid.

 What if I told you that God possesses a body of water that He wants
you to get into? What if I told you that He wants you to get over
your head in this body of water? What if I told you that He wants
you to give yourself over to the power of this mighty river, to be
swept away in its current; that He wants you to get into a place
where you are helpless, and are at the mercy of the amazing river?
Ezekiel writes about such a precious river in these verses.

This is a millennial vision. Ezekiel is envisioning a time when the Lord

will bring about absolute healing in the nation of Israel. He sees a time
when the river of God’s grace and blessing will flow from His throne
and will refresh the Promised Land. While this prophecy is for the nation
of Israel and will be literally fulfilled one day, there is application here
for us today.

If you will allow me, I want to make a spiritual application from

these verses today. I want to tell you about a spiritual river that
flows through this world right now. I want to tell you about a river
that brings refreshment, power and glory right now. I want to tell
you about a river you can swim in.

I want to ask you a question. How many could honestly raise your hands
and tell me that you are exactly in the center of God’s will and that you
are right where God wants you to be in your spiritual growth? Any
takers? Is there anybody here who is over their head in the things of the
Lord?
The truth of the matter is, we all have plenty of room for improvement!
That’s what this sermon is all about today. It’s about becoming more of
what the Lord God wants each of us to be. It’s about leaving the shore of
stagnant, disappointed Christianity and wading out into the deep
spiritual waters of the born again life.

You see, what has happened in the modern church is that many have
become far too cautious about giving their all to Jesus Christ. I really
believe that there are many in the church today who are afraid of getting
in over their heads. I want to encourage you to throw caution to the wind
today. I want to challenge you to wade out into the deep water, and to
release yourself to the current of God’s will and power.

Let’s take a few minutes today to look at Ezekiel’s prophecy. I want you
to notice three aspects of this prophecy that apply to you and me today. I
would like to help each of us learn to wade out a little bit deeper in the
things of the Lord. I want to challenge each that is in attendance today.

THE REVELATION SERMON {THE MERCY OF THE RIVER}

 I.EZEKIEL 47 v. 1-2, 6-12 EZEKIEL SURVEYED A RIVER

A. This river is type of the Holy Spirit, John 14:16-18. There are three
ways in which this river represents the Spirit and His work in the life of
the believer in Jesus Christ.

1. In Its Source – The throne of God. The Holy Spirit, like this river,
came directly from the Father’s throne.

2. In Its Course – From the “altar.” Notice that this river came from
the altar, or the place where sacrifice was made. The Water of Life, the
precious Holy Spirit comes directly from the altar of Christ’s sacrifice,
the cross – Matt. 20:28. The Holy Spirit came only after the death of
Christ on the cross, John 16:7.

3. In Its Force – Notice four great truths about this river that made it
very special. These four truths make the Holy Spirit special as well.
a. It had no Feeder Streams – There was no need for any thing to flow
into this river to give it force, size and power. When it left the throne, it
possessed all that it needed. The Mississippi river in the US is less that 3
feet wide where it begins, but after all the feed streams flow into it, it
becomes a mighty river that is well over a mile wide where it empties
into the Gulf of Mexico. God’s river needs no feeder streams.

What I mean is this, God doesn’t need the world or anything that is in it,
and He certainly doesn’t need me and you to get His work done here in
this world. God supersedes us! He supersedes this world and He will get
the job done in spite of you and me. His river needs no feeder streams!

b. v. 8 It could Heal – This river made the sea water pure when it
flowed into it. If you drink sea water it will kill you!

I am talking about a river that has the power to heal. I am talking about
the power of the Holy Spirit in your life and mine. He can heal broken
hearts. He can heal broken lives. He can heal broken dreams. He is a
Spirit who flows with healing power today. He specializes in fixing
broken things!

I challenge you to bring that which is broken to the Lord Jesus and
watch Him heal it by His power!

Ill. Matt. 11:28; Luke 4:18 Jesus can take a life broken by sin and
through the working of His Spirit, bring healing to that soul and glory
into the heart of that life that was the slave of sin!

c. v. 9 It could Revive – Everything this river touched was transformed

with its life giving power. Notice that verse 9 tells us twice that
everything the river touches will live!

When the Spirit of God moves into a life, there will be a renewal. When
God moves in, He will change things! He can take that which was dead
and make it live, Eph. 2:1-4. He can and will give a drink of the water of
life that will produce everlasting life and eternal satisfaction in the life of
the believer.

By the way, the Holy Spirit is Who our churches need if we are
going to see revival and the power of God in our midst. We need to
learn to welcome Him and not be afraid of His power in our midst.

d. v. 12 It could bring forth Fruit and Freshness – Everywhere this

great river flowed, fruit sprang up.

So it is with the presence of the Holy Spirit. When He moves in, His
presence will be manifested by fruit and freshness in the life of the
believer.

(Ill. He will cause His life to flow from you, John 7:38-39; Gal. 5:22-23!

All of these things picture the work of the Holy Spirit in saving and
using the believer for the glory of the Lord. When our eyes are open, it is
easy to see where the Spirit is moving and working.

B. Notice that the Bible says, “He Saw” – Sadly, many hear the Gospel
call, John 1:29, and they see what the Spirit can and is doing in the lives
of others, yet that is as far as they get! However, that isn’t far enough to
save them. Many see the river flowing by, but they never get wet!

For this river to do you any good, you have to get into it, John 3:7; John
7:37.

(Ill. The Ethiopian Eunuch – Acts 8:36-37).

II. V. 3-4 EZEKIEL STEPPED INTO A RIVER

As the man in Ezekiel’s vision measured the river, he carried Ezekiel
along with him. As a result, the prophet was led into ever deepening
water. God wants to do this same thing in your life today!

Notice how Ezekiel’s venture speaks to us as believers today.

A. He Waded In Ankle Deep – This represents the step of faith that

saves the soul, Acts 16:31, Psa. 34:8. It is truly great to be saved, but it
isn’t the end! Yes, He brought us out, but He also wants to lead us on.
Many stop right here and never go one step farther with God. There is
much more to being saved than just getting saved!

This is where the waders stay! Those who get saved and refuse to grow
in the Lord are just dabblers. They spend all of their time in the shallow
end of the pool afraid to wade out deeper. They miss the blessings of the
deeper life. These people are in total, absolute control of their loves.

Have you ever watched the children in the kiddie pool? They remind me
of a lot of church members today. They are yelling and screaming,
wanting somebody else’s pool toy. Doing their best to splash someone
and push someone else under. Sounds just like many of the folk in our
churches, doesn’t it?

B. He Waded In Knee Deep – The knees speak of prayer. This

represents a life that is learning dependence upon the Lord. This is the
person who prays and trying to live their life in faith before the Lord,
Heb. 10:38. Many never reach even this shallow level of maturity in the
Lord. You need to remember, however, that no person will ever stand
taller than he does on his knees!

Those who are at this level know something of the power of the river.
They can feel its power as it rushes past, but they aren’t really affected
by it. They are still standing on their own two feet. They are in control of
their lives and aren’t being supported by the river.
C. He Waded In Loin Deep – The loins are emblematic of strength.
This speaks of spiritual power in our lives. When one has waded out
waist deep into the river, more of the river and less of the man is seen,
Ill. John 3:30. When we have waded out this far, we can feel the power
of the river, and others can see its effect on us, Eph. 6:10. This level of
maturity is rarely reached, but when it is, you can’t hide its effects in
your life! It will tell on you! As deep as this level of spiritual growth is,
it is still not as deep as we can go!

The few who are at this level of spiritual maturity have lost some control
over themselves. They are often picked up by the river and moved a few
feet at a time, but still, they are close enough to the shore to be able to
stand if they need to. They are still in control.

III. v. 5 EZEKIEL SURRENDERED TO A RIVER

At this point, Ezekiel has reached a place where the river is in total
control. It takes him where it will. He has no power over his destination.
He is at the mercy of the mighty river of God!

A. This represents the highest spiritual level that any believer can
reach in this life. Couldn’t pass over! It just doesn’t get any deeper
than this!

B. There are three reasons why I can say that this is the deepest you
can ever get as a Christian.

1. When you wade out this deep, you have moved beyond your
ability – Ill. Ezekiel was at the total mercy of the river. Far too many
like the safety of the shore. The person who has reached this level of
spiritual maturity has moved beyond himself and has placed himself
under that control and command of God.

This is what true spiritual maturity is all about! It is about coming to the
end of ourselves and understanding that there is no way that we could
ever do it on our own. We must come to the place where we realize who
is in control! Phil. 4:13; John 15:5.

God does not want me to get to where I can; He wants me to get to

where I can’t!

2. When you wade out this deep, you have ceased to support yourself
– Ezekiel is no longer wading, he is just resting. He isn’t in charge; he
has given himself over to the power of the river!

Ill. This is where God wants to bring us to. He wants us to reach the
place where we learn to rest in Him and allow Him to support us and
carry us through this life. It will no longer be you trying to run around
and get things done, it will be you resting in the power of the Holy Spirit
watching the Lord conduct His business as He caries you along with
Him.

3. When you wade out this deep, you have given yourself up to the
will of the river – Ezekiel was going to go where the river took him.

This is how the Lord wants us to be. He wants us to loose sight of

ourselves, our goals, our ambitions, our dreams and He wants us to be
totally, 100% surrendered to Him and His will for our lives. God is
looking for surrender from you and me, Rom. 12:1-2.

4. When you wade out this deep, you are just happy to be carried by
the river – The will of the river of God becomes your will also. This
is where we are all commanded to be – Eph. 5:18; Gal. 5:25; 1 John 2:6.

Prophet Ezekiel is all wet! He has gotten into something that is way
over his head. That, my friends is where God wants to get you!
 

Conc:

Do you know what the secret to real revival is? It is nothing more than
for God’s people to get to the place where they are as deep in Him as
they can get! That’s what it is! It isn’t for that ankle deep crowd! Those
knee deep folks will get a ripple every now and then. Even those who
are out there to the loins won’t feel the force of God’s power like they
should. It is only when we throw ourselves on the mercy of the river and
we allow the Spirit of God to have the absolute right of way in our lives
that we can experience true and genuine revival.

Now, I want you to notice two things that are so profound that we do
not want to miss them.

1. Notice this statement in verses 3-4, “He brought me through the

waters.” Some of you are holding back on total commitment to the Lord
today because you are afraid that if you fully sell out to Him that you
will drown. God will never let you down! Some of God’s saints have
walked through some mighty deep waters over the centuries and God
brought them all out!

Ill. Job, Job 1-2; 3 Hebrews, Dan. 3; Daniel, Dan. 6; The Disciples –
John 6 (Feeding the 5,000 and the storm!)

What the Lord did for them, He will also do for you!

He is in the business of taking His people through!

• Isaiah 43:2, “When thou passest through the waters, I will be with
thee; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow thee: when thou
walkest through the fire, thou shalt not be burned; neither shall the flame
kindle upon thee.”

• Isaiah 54:17, “No weapon that is formed against thee shall prosper;
and every tongue that shall rise against thee in judgment thou shalt
condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the LORD, and their
righteousness is of me, saith the LORD.”

2. The deeper you go, the harder it is to jump out – IN THE

SHALLO WATER –TADPOLE –DEEPER WATER SHARKS

When you are in the kiddie pool you can jump in and out whenever you
feel like it. When you are knee deep and loin deep, it is just a short hike
back to the safety of the shore. But, when you have placed yourself at
the mercy of the river, it’s a whole lot harder to get back out again. What
I am saying is that an ever deepening spiritual life is a hedge against
failure. Get in as deep as you can!

Just how deep have you waded in? Are you still in the shallows? Or, are
you At The Mercy Of The River?

 We need a deeper walk with the Lord! If that is going to take place
then we need to do a couple of things.

• First, we need to be sure that we are in the river.ACCEPT HIM

• Second, we need to get away from the shore and move into deeper
water.ABSOLUTE COMMITMENT

• Third, we all need to come to the place where the river is in absolute
control of our life and destiny.SWIMING IN THE ANNOINTING

• What do you need to do today?

 FRUITS OF FEBRUARY PRAYER POINTS

REVELATION 22:2: "In the midst of the street of it, and on either side of the river, was there
the tree of life, which bare twelve manner of fruits, and yielded her fruit every month: and the
leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations."

EZEKIEL 47:12: "And by the river upon the bank thereof, on this side and on that side, shall
grow all trees for meat, whose leaf shall not fade, neither shall the fruit thereof be consumed:
it shall bring forth new fruit according to his months, because their waters they issued out of
the sanctuary: and the fruit thereof shall be for meat, and the leaf thereof for medicine."
MARK 11:12-14: "And on the morrow, when they were come from Bethany, he was hungry:
And seeing a fig tree afar off having leaves, he came, if haply he might find any thing thereon:
and when he came to it, he found nothing but leaves; for the time of figs was not yet. And
Jesus answered and said unto it, No man eat fruit of thee hereafter for ever. And his disciples
heard it."

“Every Month, A Fruit!”

God hates barrenness and loves fruitfulness. That is very true, every month ought to bear you a
good fruit to nourish your life on earth. There are 12 fruits, one for each month, according to the
word of God in the scripture above. Therefore, February must have some heavenly-ordained fruit
for your destiny, know that now if you are unaware of that spiritual fact.

Somethings are taken for granted by God and such things are natural occurrence for our lives.
When suddenly such things are missing from our lives, God gets angry, not because of those
things but because we are blind to see the power He had invested in us to obtain those things.
Jesus could have miraculously brought fig from that tree, but was angry because of the strange
deceptive behaviour of the tree. It was not the time of fig but this strange tree brought out leaves,
giving impression that it has fruit.

That was a strange game, particularly on a very important and sensitive subject of fruitfulness. In
the garden of Eden, the first set of blessings by God upon man was BE FRUITFUL!!! Our Lord
Jesus did not waste time with semantics or diplomacy, HE CURSED THAT FAKE TREE
FROM THE ROOTS!!! I wish somebody out there reading this message would get angry like
our Lord Jesus, and they would stand up with boiling anger and curse the root of their problems
to WITHER IN JESUS' NAME!!!

Now let us do some spiritual exploration. The journey of every fruit began from the seed. From
the seed-stage, it grows into the tree-stage. From the tree-stage, it flourishes into the fruit-stage.
Whenever the fruit-stage is due and you are not seeing any result of fruitfulness, then there is a
trouble that you must deal with, with holy violence. That means it is time for you to fertilize your
life with hot violent prayers and deal with that situation with boiling anger.

There is this similar story in Luke 13:6-9:

"He spake also this parable; A certain man had a fig tree planted in his vineyard; and he
came and sought fruit thereon, and found none. Then said he unto the dresser of his vineyard,
Behold, these three years I come seeking fruit on this fig tree, and find none: cut it down; why
cumbereth it the ground? And he answering said unto him, Lord, let it alone this year also, till
I shall dig about it, and dung it: And if it bear fruit, well: and if not, then after that thou shalt
cut it down."

Is there any any situation in your life which had a sprinkle of testimonies in years past, and after
the initial testimony, there was a freeze: has stagnated and refused to grow or move forward?
That sprinkle of testimonies was when the situation grew from seed-stage to tree-stage with
green leaves, but suddenly refused to bear fruit. This is your month, get ready for violent battle
and your victory dance.

Since the journey of every fruit begins with the seed. The seed is the word of God in your mouth
boldly declared and turned into effectual fervent prayers, they shall not fall to the ground without
accomplishing the things which you send them to arrest. May the heavenly seed in your mouth
germinate and bring forth bountiful harvests of fruits for your life this month in Jesus' name. Let
me round up this part one of the prayer points for the fruits of February with the following prayer
exercise.

Revelation 22 - Hope and Encouragement

found in the Tree of Life
“Then the angel showed me a river of the water of life—bright as crystal, flowing from the
throne of God and of the Lamb down the middle of the city’s street. On either side of the river
was a tree of life, bearing twelve kinds of fruit, yielding its fruit each month; and the leaves of
the tree were for the healing of the nations.”

—Revelation 22:1-2 TLV

When we move into chapter 22, we find God the Father and Yeshua reigning from the New
Jerusalem. This city is described in great detail, but one of the things John sees, and makes sure
to point out, is the Tree of Life.

Now this is interesting! We all know the story of Adam and Eve in the Garden and how they
took the fruit from the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil but were removed from the Garden
before they could take a bite from the Tree of Life.

So, what is it about this tree and why is it so special? John gives us some insight into this, and I
believe it will give you hope and inspiration to overcome. John says that the Tree of Life bears
fruit continually and its leaves heal the nations. John sees this tree in the New Jerusalem, the
holy city, as a source of power and healing. Now, just a few verses later John reads some
powerful words from Yeshua who uses the Tree of Life as a reward or inspiration of why we
should be hopeful and overcome!

“Then he tells me, ‘Do not seal up the words of the prophecy of this book, for the time is near.
Let the evildoer still do evil, and the filthy still be filthy, and the righteous still do
righteousness, and the holy still be holy. Behold, I am coming soon, and My reward is with
Me, to pay back each one according to his deeds. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the First and
the Last, the Beginning and the End. How fortunate are those who wash their robes, so that
they may have the right to the Tree of Life and may enter through the gates into the city.’”

What I want to point out and what I want us to focus on about the Tree of Life, is that Yeshua
could have listed many rewards and pointed out many amazing things about the eternal age and
our future rewards. However, what Yeshua highlights as a motivator and a privilege when He
returns to judge is the right to the Tree of Life!

Yeshua says “Behold my reward is with Me, to pay back each one according to his deeds” and
the primary motivator He uses to inspire hope to do righteous acts (mitzvah) and to be holy is the
Tree of Life. Notice the tree is in the holy city and you need access to get there. Yeshua says if
you overcome in this life, you also gain the right to “enter through the gates into the city”
where the Tree of Life is located.

Maybe you have not thought about the Tree of Life in a long time, but Yeshua reminds us again
of the tree that Adam and Eve lost the right to in Genesis. Now at the end of the story in our
recorded Scriptures, Yeshua says upon His return, by overcoming in this life, we gain the right to
the Tree of Life and to enter the New Jerusalem! Remember, Yeshua prayed for us to be one
with Him and the Father (John 17) and to be where He and the Father dwell in glory. It started in
the holy garden and will end in a holy city, but at the center will be the Tree of Life.
Tree of Life – Revelations 22:1-2 &

Tree of life was first mentioned in the book of Genesis but Adam did not eat  from this tree .

Jesus was hanged on a tree so as to give eternal life to all saints. One of his mission is to give life
and life more abundantly. Jesus wants us to eat from the tree of life so that the journey of life
might be made easy, sweet and sickness free.

Many of us still hang on our family genetic tree of sickness and diseases. It is time for us to taste
and see that the Lord is good. Tree of life is within our reach. Let us get connected to it remain in
him, abide in him and we shall bring forth fruits of the spirits in Jesus name. Pray this prayer
points.

1. The tree of life gives covering, rest, warms I receive these in Jesus name.
2. I will not eat any wild uncultivated tree. Tree of sickness/disease, tree of death.(Rom
11;24)
3. I eat the fruit of life and I become Instruments to produce joy. Exodus 15:2.(Acts 5;30 )
4. Let the fruit of life proceed continually from me to others(.Prov 15;4,13;2.3;18.11;30)
5. . I will continually bear good fruits and not bad fruits in Jesus name.(Mat 7;17-19)
6.  As the days of a tree shall be my days. I will live long,will not die untimely in Jesus
name(Iisaiah 65;22)
7. My tree will continually be fresh and green. Not dry. I refuse dryness in Jesus name.
(Luke 23:31)
8. Wash me cleanse me so I can have right into the tree of life in Jesus name.( Revelations
22:14)
9. I will flourish like the palm tree in the name of Jesus.(Psalm 92;12)
10. I am a beautiful tree, my health is beautiful, and my organs are beautiful in Jesus name.
11. My  rod will continually  blossom in Jesus name. I am a  Fruitful tree (Num 17;8)
12. Oh lord do not take away my part from the tree of life in Jesus name.(Rev 22;19)
13. All evil tree connected to me and my children where sickness is oozing out towards me
be cut down to the root in Jesus name.
14. All satanic and unfavorable altars in the entire tree in my village, outside my village
working against me,I  pull down such wicked altars in Jesus name.
15. No evil rod of sickness/disease will strike me, my children or members of my household
in Jesus name.
16. I break all evil rod the enemies is using to beat me, my husband and my children in the
name of Jesus.( Isaiah 14:29)
