Govt proposes tweaks in BH series Rules


National
• The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) has
proposed to allow conversion of regular vehicle registrations
into Bharat Series (BH) numbers.

• At present, only new vehicles can opt for BH series mark. In a


draft notification, the MoRTH informed about the proposed
amendments in the rules governing Bharat (BH) series
registration mark which was launched for people who are in
transferable jobs.

• So far, 24 states and UTs have rolled out the new Bharat
Series (BH-series) for vehicle registration and so far over
20,000 vehicles have been registered across the states

• The Ministry of Road Transport & Highways has rolled out a new
series for vehicles registration ‘BH’ to avoid re-registration of
vehicles while moving to another state.

• A vehicle bearing BH registration mark shall not require assignment
of a new registration mark when the owner of the vehicle shifts from National
one State to another.

• ####- 0000 to 9999 (randomized)
• XX- Alphabets (AA to ZZ)

• Under section 47 of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, a person is allowed


to keep the vehicle for not more than 12 months in any state other
than the state where the vehicle is registered.

• BH-series will be available on voluntary basis to Defense personnel,


employees of Central Government/ State Government/ Central/ State
PSUs and private sector companies/organizations.

• The motor vehicle tax will be levied for two years or in multiple of two.

• This scheme will facilitate free movement of personal vehicles across


States/UTs of India upon relocation to a new State/UT.

• After completion of the fourteenth year, the motor vehicle tax shall be
levied annually which shall be half of the amount which was charged
earlier for that vehicle.

• For vehicles that have a purchase price of less than Rs.10 lakhs, the
applicant has to pay eight percent of the vehicle’s purchase price to get a
BH number plate.

• For a vehicle purchased between Rs.10 lakh and Rs.20 lakh, the Ministry of Road Transport &
applicant has to pay 10% of the vehicle’s purchase price. Highways (MoRTH) :

• India is well on its way to achieving the aim of 65% of power National
generation from non-fossil fuel sources by 2030 and will achieve
more than that

• India will achieve 90 GW of solar equipment manufacturing


capacity by 2030. Currently, the country has 20 GW of such
capacity and 15-20 GW of the solar manufacturing capacity is
under construction.

• Currently, India has 170 GW of renewable energy and another


80 GW is under construction. The country aims to achieve 500
GW by the year 2030.

• Government has allocated ₹19,500 crore for domestic


manufacture of solar photovoltaic (PV) modules

• India’s first sports helmet testing centre will be established in National


Meerut in the next four month and will cost around Rs 3 crore.

MOU
• Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports (MYAS), the Food Safety and
Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) and the National Forensic
Sciences University (NFSU) signed a Memorandum of Understanding to
set up the testing facility for dietary supplements.

• The MoU is to benefit the athletes and athlete-support personnel by


educating and spreading awareness about inadvertent doping due to
prohibited substances present in nutritional supplements.

• This is considered an important step forward in implementing the


recently enacted National Anti-Doping Act, 2022, by the Government
of India

• To ensure the quality of Dietary Supplements for sportspersons, a major


step has been taken to create a testing facility at the National Forensic
Science University, Ahmedabad, Gujarat, in collaboration with the

• Russia is set to demonstrate its Sprut-SDM1 light
amphibious tank during the Indian Army’s upcoming
tender for light tanks.

• Sprut-SDM1, equipped with a 125 mm tank gun, is


the only light amphibious tank of its class to have
firepower equivalent to that of the main battle tank.

• The amphibious tank is capable of crossing water


obstacles and firing a gun while afloat. It can
disembark from ships, be transferred by military

• The Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction 2015-2030
(Sendai Framework) was the first major agreement of the post-2015
development agenda and provides Member States with concrete
actions to protect development gains from the risk of disaster.

• The Sendai Framework works hand in hand with the other 2030
Agenda agreements, including The Paris Agreement on Climate
Change, The Addis Ababa Action Agenda on Financing for
Development, the New Urban Agenda, and ultimately the Sustainable
Development Goals.
It was endorsed by the UN General Assembly following the 2015
Third UN World Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction (WCDRR),
and advocates for:The substantial reduction of disaster risk and
losses in lives, livelihoods and health and in the economic, physical,
social, cultural and environmental assets of persons, businesses,
communities and countries.

• It recognizes that the State has the primary role to reduce disaster
risk but that responsibility should be shared with other stakeholders
including local government, the private sector and other
stakeholders.

UNICEF: 4 million children into poverty by Ukraine War
Index-report
• A report titled “The impact of the war in Ukraine and subsequent
economic downturn on child poverty in eastern Europe” was
recently released by UNICEF.

• The report assessed the economic impact of the Ukraine war by


studying 22 countries in Eastern Europe and Central Asia.

• The Ukraine War and consequent inflation have driven an additional 4


million children across the region into poverty. This is a 19 per cent
increase since 2021.

• It found that 25 per cent of the population in the region is children.


However, they account for nearly 40 per cent of the additional 10.4
million people who are suffering from poverty in 2022.

• Russia has experienced the highest increase in children living in


poverty, with 2.8 million more children currently living in BPL
households.

• Ukraine hosts the second-largest share of children living in poverty.

• The total balance in the basic bank accounts under the Pradhan Mantri Banking
Jan Dhan Yojana (PMJDY) has crossed the ₹1.75 lakh crore mark.

• As per the latest Government data, the total balance stood at ₹1,75,225
crore as on October 5, 2022, as the total number of beneficiaries touched

• More than 46.25 crore beneficiaries banked under PMJDY since its inception,

PM Modi dedicates 75 Digital Banking Units to nation

• Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi dedicated 75 Digital
Banking Units (DBUs) across 75 districts to the nation via
video conferencing to ensure the benefits of digital banking
reach every corner of India.

• These DBUs were announced during the FY23 budget by Finance


Minister Nirmala Sitharaman to commemorate 75 years of India’s
Independence.

• Setting up of DBUs is a joint initiative of the Central


Government, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), the Indian
Banks Association (IBA) and the participating Commercial
banks (other than regional rural banks, payment banks and local
area banks) with past digital banking experience are permitted to
open DBUs in tier 1 to tier 6 centres.

IRDAI praposes conditions for private equity funds in
insurance companies Banking

• The Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India has


issued a draft resolution proposing to allow private equity funds
to come in as promoters of insurance and reinsurance
companies, with certain conditions

• There are conditions which have been stated by the IRDAI for
promoters, investors and private equity companies.

• The rules for private equity firms are as follows:


• Investible funds should not be under $100 million
• They have to complete 10 years of operation and funds raised
by them, including their group entities, must amount to $500
million or more.
