Assignment -5

Problem: Natural convection

WE used following step to solve this problem-

STEP:-1 Open the Workbench software and create the FLUID FLUENT as shown in the
figure below.
STEP:-2
 Create Geometry of a plane with dimensions height-60cm width-40 cm.
 Make a circle with diameter 5 cm center of circle is 20 cm away from bottom of
slab 2-D
 Its look like the following pic
STEP:-3
 After creating the geometry, create a MESH of element size 5mm.
 Name the all walls as insulated wall .
 After creating mesh and giving names to the edges the mesh looks like below. y.

STEP:-4
 Now Open the SETUP part.
 Select the 2D planar option.
 Set laminar normally though there is no fluid flow but keep the laminar flow
option normally and select transient option .
 Now switch on the energy model. In materials solid.
 Go to the boundary condition the give the heated cylinder as 650 oC. and all walls
are at temperature of 28 oC.
 Select the solution method scheme as SIMPLE.
 In the residual option select the convergence to 10^(-25) for energy part.
 Select the initialization method as STANDARD INTIALIZATION and compute
from heated cylinder and the select initialization.
 After initialization part select the patch option as shown in the figure below.
 select the temperature option give temperature as 28 oC and select the surface
body option.

STEP:-5

 Go to the calculation option then give the number of time steps as 600 and maximum
time step iterations 20 with time step size as 0.1 sec .
 Now calculate .
STEP:-6

 Go to the result part then develop the temperature contour it looks like below
figure.
STEP:-7

 Go to the result part then develop the velocity contour it looks like below figure.
