MODE OF ACTION Rebamipide helps in replacement of lost tissue by increasing
the expression of epidermal growth factor (EGF) and EGF receptors. These EGF causes angiogenesis, increased production of granulation tissue and epithelization of ulcer healing. INDICATION Treatment of gastric mucosal lesions (erosions, bleeding, redness and edema) in the following conditions: Acute gastritis and acute exacerbation of chronic gastritis. Gastric ulcers. CONTRAINDICATIONS Patients with a history of hypersensitivity to any ingredient of this drug.
SIDE EFFECTS • Skin: Rash, pruritus, drug-eruption-like eczema
• Gastrointestinal: Constipation, bloating, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, stomach upset, heartburn, abdominal pain, belching, taste abnormality • Others: Cold sweat, difficulty breathing ADVERSE REACTION • Significant: Dizziness, drowsiness, thrombocytopenia, leucopenia, shock, jaundice. Rarely, liver dysfunction. • Investigations: Increased AST, ALT, alkaline phosphatase, or BUN levels. AVAILABLE FORMS Tablet form DRUG INTERACTION No drug interactions between rebamipide and other drugs are reported. NURSING 1. Rebamipide may be taken with or without food. RESPONSIBILITIES 2.
