Learning Competency/ies: CODE:
Explain how Galileo inferred that object in vacuum fall with uniform acceleration, and that S11/12PS-
force is not necessary to sustain horizontal motion. IVc-47
I. OBJECTIVE
At the end of the lesson, the students should be able to:
a) describe the views of motion of Aristotle and Galileo;
b) explain how Galileo inferred that object in vacuum fall with uniform acceleration; and
c) compare and contrast the view of motion of Aristotle and Galileo;
d)
II. SUBJECT MATTER
A. TOPIC: How Galileo Inferred That Objects in Vacuum Fall in Uniform Acceleration
B. REFERENCES: SHS Physical Science Quarter 2 – Module 5 How Galileo Inferred that Objects in
Vacuum Fall in Uniform Acceleration
C. MATERIALS: PowerPoint presentation, models
D. VALUE INTEGRATION: Creativity, cooperation, acceptance of the provisional nature of
scientific explanation.
III. LEARNING ACTIVITIES
TEACHER’S ACTIVITY STUDENT’S ACTIVITY
A. PRELIMINARY ACTIVITIES
1. Greetings
Good morning, class. Good morning, ma’am.
How’s your day? Great ma’am.
2. Prayer

Is there any absentee today class?
Very good.

For online class: Okay, for today’s

attendance, I will monitor it at the end of
the discussion. I will download the
attendance report here in our online
learning platform. This shows how long the
time you are in.
For face-to-face class: Okay, I have here
the attendance sheet, you will sign it after
our class.

B. Recall
So, last meeting we have discussed modern
astronomy. We have studied two scientists. Who Johannes Kepler and Tycho Brahe
are they?

We also discussed the three laws of planetary

motion. Law of ellipse
Again class, what are they?
Law of equal areas
Law of harmonies

Very good.

C. Motivation
Okay for us to lighten up our mood, let us first
have an activity.
I have here two pictures. A pig and a mouse.
The pictures below show a pig and a mouse who
were dropped from the same point in the sky, at the
same time, which one would reach the ground first
without air resistance?

Guide Questions:
1. Which falls first, the heavier or lighter
object? Defend your answer.
2. What is the role of air resistance here?
3. What is the impact of this activity to you?

D. Presentation of the Topic

Like you class, there’s these two philosophers who
have different view regarding motion. They are
Aristotle and Galileo. Now, let’s try to compare
and contrast their views.
E. Lesson Proper
(modern astronomer)
Yes, ma’am
F. Application
Get a basketball ball and ping pong ball. Hold
the balls on your hand, at the height level of
your shoulder, then simultaneously drop the
ball. Observe what happens.
Questions:
1. Which ball reached the ground first? Defend
your answer.
2. What can you say about Galileo's view of
motion?
3. What is the impact of this activity to you?
G. Generalization
.
H. Valuing
As a 21st century learner, what would be the impact to you
of this learning? On a separate sheet of paper, create a
checklist of things that would be beneficial to you from this
learning
