Smart city definition

A city using information and

communication technologies
(ICT) to improve its inhabitants'
living quality in a sustainable
way
The sustainability concept
Sustainability:
• the ability to be maintained at a certain rate or level.
• avoidance of the depletion of natural resources in
order to maintain an ecological balance.

Sustainability is the process of maintaining change in

a balanced environment, in which the exploitation of
resources, the direction of investments, the orientation
of technological development and institutional change
are all in harmony and enhance both current and future
potential resources to meet human needs and
aspirations.

Information technology

● Low-cost sensors used in bulk

● Information technology (IT or ITC): It is the study or use of
systems (especially computers and telecommunications) to
obtain, transmit and store information.

Smart Mobility concept Use of sensors, ITC/IoT, database analysis,
tools and apps to improve mobility:

• People and goods

• In a sustainable way (economic, social,
environmental)
• Integrating the different modes of
transport (walking, bicycle, public
transport, private vehicle)
• Promoting the use of electric buses

To improve the living conditions of the

inhabitants.

Smart Mobility in University Districts

Public transport in México

• It is synonym of great challenges

• The private sector dominates the transport of

people in México (Scholar service, employees
transport )
➢ High impact on the mobility of the city
➢ It offers real opportunities to improve
mobility in the city

Objetives

General objective
Implement smart mobility strategies in university districts
that serve as demonstrative and replicable examples

Specific objectives
• Develop a tool for evaluating mobility strategies
• Evaluate/implement mobility strategies for university
districts

Reorganization of public transport

Strategy 1:
UGO

Integration of the
different modes
of transport • App

(MaaS) • Developed in partnership with Moovit

• Multimodal: Buses, bikes, scooters & other mobility forms.
• Demand responsive transport (DTR)
• Shared transport systems,
• Input data for transport analytics
• Convenience: Option to book and pay in a single app.
Strategy 2:
Electric buses

Progressive
introduction of
electric buses in
public passenger
transport and
cargo distribution
Strategy 3a:
Bycicles

Promotion of
bicycle as an
alternative mode
of transport

• Bicicletas como medio alternativo de transporte

➢ Distribución de mercancía (ultima milla)
➢ Entregas a domicilio
• Implementar sistemas publico de bicicletas
integrado a un aplicación integral del movilidad
tipo MaaS
➢ Movilidad de las personas
