Question:

An archer shoots an arrow at a 75 m distant target; the bull’s-eye of the target is at same
height as the release height of the arrow. If d = 75 m and v = 37 m/s. At what angle must the
arrow be released to hit the bull’s-eye if its initial speed is 37m/s?

Illustration:

Θ=?
Range Distance, r = 75 meters

Solution:

To solve this problem, we use the formula for the range in a projectile motion:

V 2 sin 2θ
R=
g
Where:
R = Range of projectile motion
V = Initial speed or velocity
θ = Angle of initial velocity
g = gravitational acceleration (9.81 m/s2)

Substituting the given values to the formula,

2
(37 m/s ) sin 2 θ
75 m= 2
9.81 m/ s

(75 m)(9.81 m/s2 )

sin 2 θ=
(37 m/s)2

( )
2
−1 (75 m)(9.81 m/ s )
2 θ=sin 2
(37 m / s)

2 θ=34.509272
°
θ=17.25
