Welcome to the Music 7 Alternative Delivery Mode (ADM) Module on Vocal
and Instrumental Music of Mindanao!

The hand is one of the most symbolized parts of the human body. It is often

What I Need to Know

This module will help you understand and appreciate your


indigenous music to strengthen your cultural identity as Filipino. You will be
introduced to various indigenous music and you will correlate its importance to
the community. You will enjoy hearing varied listening activities which focus
on music of Mindanao.

After going through this module, you are expected to analyze the musical
elements of some Mindanao vocal and instrumental music (MU7MN-IIIa-g-2)

Specifically, you will be able to:

1. identify examples of vocal and instrumental music;


2. apply musical elements in evaluating vocal and instrumental
music; and,
3. promote Philippine culture through listening to Music of

What is It

Music of Mindanao

1. Vocal Music
It is usually written in text and intended to be sung by a human
voice. It could be sung either in a capella or with instrumental
accompaniment. No single categorization can be applied to the music
of Mindanao. The following are the suggested classifications.

A. The vocal repertoire is performed either in responsorial or solo


manner.

Responsorial singing is also known as call-and-response and can be a


leader-chorus type or a song debate. You may listen to an example of it at

Solo songs are sung for all kinds of occasions and are sung by one
person only. They may be accompanied by instruments and/or dancing.
