CHIEF ENGINEER’S MONTHLY REPORT

VESSEL: DHT PEONY MONTH: AUGUST 2021

Main Engine:
- New felt filter fitted to the inlet trunking of the Turbochargers.
- M/E Turbocharger grit blasting carried out, Soot blow carried out regularly.
- M/E Performance recorded.
- M/E Aft turbocharger exhaust gas inlet bellows found cracked, same temporarily
patched up with belzona, and copper sheets.
- M/E unit no.3 blank lubricator found leaking from O-ring, ground the quill pipe to take
out the covering pipe and renewed the O-rings. Tried out found no leaks.
- M/E camcase inspection carried out.
- M/E Unit no.s 1, 6 & 7 Safety valve renewed from spare.
- M/E Spare safety valve overhauled and kept as spare.
- M/E Scavenge and Underpiston space cleaning carried out.
- M/E OMD routines carried out, Smoke density alarm checked found working
satisfactory.
- M/E Shaft earthing routines carried out.
- M/E Crankcase inspection carried out from outside found in good condition.
- M/E Exhaust gas local thermometer renewed from spare. ( 4 No.s).
- M/E Scavenge temperature sensor pocket removed, and gaskets renewed to arrest
leaks.

Auxiliary Engines:
- A/E No.1,2& 3 Centrifugal filter cleaned.
- Performances of all three A/Es carried out.
- A/E turbocharger water washing carried out.
- A/E alarms & trips tested.Reverse power trip tested.
- A/E No.1 & 2 oil max pump overhauled, seals renewed, tried out found working
satisfactorily.
- A/E No.1 Fuel injectors pressure tested and put back in use. Tried out the A/E found
working satisfactory.
- A/E No.2 sealing test carried out to 6bars.
- A/E No.1 Sump oil renewed, crankshaft deflection recorded, crankcase inspected,
Tappet clearances checked and adjusted as required.

Boilers:
- Alarms and trips tried out found working satisfactory.
- Aux. boiler furnace inspection carried out found satisfactory.
- Water wash carried out on EGB smoke side.
- Aux. boiler no.2 Atomising steam auto valve found leaking from gland, O-ring found
damaged, same renewed and tried out found no leaks.
- Aft EGE Soot blower found to in open condition, same replaced from spare.
- Aux. boiler no.1 Main and Pilot burner routines carried out.
- Aux. boiler igition pump suction filter cleaned.
- Aux. boiler gauge glasses cocks eased up.
- Aux. boiler no.2 master pressure gauge renewed.

Framo/Cargo Systems / Hydraulics:
- Coupling oil for COPTS inspected and replenished as necessary.
- Aft Hydraulic system filter renewed.
- Aft hydraulic system Lub oil topped up.

Purifiers / Air Compressors:


- Emergency air compressor tried out and performance test found satisfactory.
- HFO Purifier performance checked by carrying out catfin test and found to be
satisfactory.
- MAC No.2 opened up to renew the HP piston and found the piston is or wrong supply,
correspondence with makers in progress.
- No.2 HFO purifier Bowl cleaning routines carried out.
- Atlas copco Lub oil renewed and filter renewed and put in use.

Safety Systems /Alarms/Automation:


- Emergency air compressor tried out every week, found satisfactory.
- Both life boat engines tested every week, found satisfactory.
- Emergency fire pump tested every week and found satisfactory.
- Emergency Generator Blackout test tried out found working satisfactory.
- Bilge alarms for E/Room, Steering Gear room & Emergency fire pump room tested
every week, found satisfactory.
- All funnel flaps and E/R blower flaps tested every week and found in satisfactory
condition.
- DG#1,2,3 alarms and trips tried out.
- Steering gear alarms and trip tested. Working satisfactory.
- Saturday safety routine carried out, ER fans and funnel flaps tried out; Bilge alarms
tried out. Emergency compressor tried out;Emergency generator tried out on both mode
battery & hydraulic .Found satisfactory. Emergency General Service batteries, GMDSS
Batteries, emergency generator batteries, Life boat batteries, Aldis lamp batteries,
Bridge UPS batteries checked. Found satisfactory.
- Auxiliary boiler alarms and trips tried out found working satisfactory.
- Foam release alarm tried out found working satisfactory.
- Co2 Release alarm tried out found working satisfactory.
- Emergency bilge suction tried out found working satisfactory.
- High expansion foam lines blown through with air.
- Defective OWS pressure gauges renewed.
- Deck foam pump tried out from tank to tank.
- Purifier room Hypermist solenoid valve found leaking, same removed in place, cleaned
and boxed back.
- Emergency generator hydraulic starter lever found in collapse condition due to broken
holding pin, same newly fitted and tried out found working satisfactory.
- No.2 Oil max pump found not working same overhauled and tried out found working
satisfactory.

Computers /PMS / ElectronicElectronic HSQEEn Documentation System:
- PAL PMS system is working good. All the jobs are being done as per the PMS schedule.
The Number of Overdue jobs is '1'- To overhaul M/E fuel pump feed motor.
- Pending Important requisitions which are required are as below,
1. DPEO210074: M/E Load indicator- Presently there is a fault indication,
2. DPEO210084: M/E Cylinder Lubricator pump- Was replaced for unit no.3 presently no
spares,
3. DPEO210090: COPT Valve- Leaking and needs replacement,
4. DPEO210091: Purifier filter cartridge bridge- Cracked and welded needs replacement,
5. DPEO210093: Nitrogen bottles with certificate- Present nitrogen bottle certificate is
expired and gas is very less.
6. DPEO210100: Boiler feed pump motor- No.2 pump motor shaft is worn out and needs
replacement,
7. DPEO210102: Fresh water generator- Evaporator end plate is leaking and needs
replacement,
8. DPEO210107: M/E Thermometer pocket- No pocket for two units for local
thermometer,
9. DPEO210087: HP Circulating pump spares- No spare for overhaul,
10. DPEO210086: Boiler fuel oil pump no.1- Stationary part is worn out beyond repair,
11. DPEO210095: Boiler feed water controller- No spare,
12. DPEO210098: Waste gate controller- Presently not in operation due to faulty power
converter unit, the spare was received without the power card.
13. DPEO210115: OWS- Oil discharge valve is malfunctioning, No spare of coalescence
filter,
14. DPEO210121: Bilge float- No Critical spare, Supplied float but of wrong length
same returned.
15. DPEO210124: 4C Cargo tank radar gauge- Needs replacement due to faulty Tr
unit,
16. DPEO210128: Emergency Generator- No critical spare,
17. DPEO210111: A/E No.1 spare- Required for Fuel valve injectors,
18. DPEO210114: A/E No.3 spare- Lub. oil filter required,
19. DPEO210119: Emergency fire pump critical spares,
20. DPEO215103: ACB repair spares,
21. DPEO210159: COPT vibration detector defective for No.2 COPT,
22. DPEO215111: M/E Aft turbocharger bellow found defective,

Technical Visits This Month:


- Nil.

Electrical:
- Monthly inspection of elevator carried out.
- Aux. boiler no.1 & 2 found not firing, fault traced to flame scanners, same renewed
from spare.
- Conversion of Electrical lights from fluorescence lamps to LED carried out.
- M/E Aux. boiler, M/E Aux. blower, Steering gear room exhaust fan, E/R Fans, HH Crane

motor starter routines carried out.
- New water fountain installed in 3rd deck.
- Officers laundry dryer found not working satisfactory, same opened up found the
supporting device wornout, same newly fabricated and fitted.
- Hydraulic pump starter routines carried out.
- New Exhaust fan fitted for the hospital.
- AMS computer found to hang, same restarted and found working satisfactory.
- AC Generator No.1, 2 & 3 Alternator routines maintenance carried out.
- Wheel house window wiper found to have low insulation. same overhauled and fitted
found to work satisfactory.
- Deck and Navigation lights renewed as necessary.
- Defective DPU for M/E renewed from spare.
- All tank level alarms checked found working satisfactory.
- EGCS communication fault traced, correspondence with the makers in progress.
- Megger test for sanitary fan, Defrosting fan in wheelhouse, Hydraulic pump room fan,
Galley supply and exhaust fan,
- No.1 & 2 MSG group starter panel inspection carried out.
- Aux. boiler smoke density meter glasses cleaned.

Cargo Plant:
- COPTs tried out, Alarms and trips tested found working satisfactorily,
- COPT coupling oil added as required,
- IG alarms and trips tested found working satisfactory,
- COPT condenser cleaned on SW side.
- 16k Dump controller diaphragm openedup and inspected, found hole same renewed
from spare.

Cosmetics:
- COPT Platform tank top cleaned and painted.
- Aux. boiler No.1 & 2 cleaned and painted.
- E/R bottom floor cleaning and painting carried out.
- S/G room cleaned and painted.

General:
-Incinerator burners overhauled, Checked waste oil lines and blown through with air,
Overhauled waste oil pump. Tried out incinerator found not working, job in hand.
-Regular burning of rags and garbage carried out, cleaned refractory regularly.
-EGCS sea chest filter cleaned.
-Both LT sea water side filters cleaned.
-Emergency fire pump sea suction filter cover found leaking same gasket renewed.
-Fire and G.S. pump filters cleaned.
-No.1 Air conditioner compressor number 1 reconditioned unit received from shore,
same fitted in place, vaccumised the unit and checked for leaks, found non. Tried out the
compressor found working satisfacotry.
-4K steam controller inlet valve found leaking from bonnet, same renewed.
- BWTS electrolyzer unit for FW flushing arrangement fabricated.
- Few defective pressure gauge and Thermometers renewed in E/R.
- WMS-02 PAH Sensor caliberation carried out.
- Both provision crane Rocking test carried out found satisfactory.
- OWS SS filters cleaned.
- FWD and AFT Hydraulic cooler cleaned on SW side.
- Water tests carried out.
- Lub oil tests carried out onboard.
- Exhaust gas seal pots for A/Es, Aux. boiler, M/E cleaned and filled with water as
required.
- Incinerator sludge pipelines lagging added as required. Tank bottom section found to
be without lagging same newly added.
- Funnel inspection carried out.
- STBD HH crane limit switch cam found to be wornout, same fabricated and fitted in
place, tried out the limit switches found working satisfactory.
- M/E Turbocharger air duct flap securing hook found broken, same fabricated and fitted.
- HFO transfer pump overhauled, renewed mechanical seals and tried out found working
satisfactory.
- Atmospheric condenser SW side anodes inspected and renewed as necessary.
- EGCS Overboard valve operation checked and found working satisfactory.
- AHU No.1 belt renewed as found damaged, No.2 AHU bearing drive unit found to be
wornout. same renewed from spare and belt for the same renewed.
- EGCS sea water pump no.1 Discharge pipe section found leaking from welding, same
removed from place, welded completely, painted with two coats of paint and fitted in
place.
- EGE Circulating pump lagging added as required.
- M/E Spare Lub oil exhaust pipe clamping arrangements fabricated and fitted.
- A/E Fuel oil heater found leaking mildly same bolts tightened.
- Sounding cap newly fabricated and fitted for No.1 HFO Bunker tank port side.
- FWG Ejector pump guard fabricated and fitted.
- Incinerator settling tank staem trap found leaking same renewed.
- Few E/R steam traps found leaking, same renewed from spare.
- Deck seal sea water flow sensor cleaned.
- Aux. boiler feed water line from Air cooler found leaking from flange gasket, same
renewed.
- L/T Coolers chemical cleaning carried out.
- Emergency generator sump oil renewed and tried out found working satisfactory.
