THE ONE TRUE GOD

WE BELIEVE IN ONE TRIUNE GOD, ETERNALLY EXISTING IN THREE DIVINE

PERSONS (FATHER, SON AND HOLY SPIRIT) CO-ETERNAL IN BEING, CO-IDENTICAL
IN NATURE, CO-EQUAL IN POWER AND GLORY, POSSESSING THE SAME
ATTRIBUTES AND PERFECTION (DEUT. 6:4; MATT. 28:19; 2 COR. 13:14; MATT.
3:16,17; JOHN 14:23; LK. 3:21-22; JN 4:23)

 Deuteronomy 6:4 “Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is
one.”
 The LORD our God… This is the plural of the word used for a deity…He is self-existent. He is
creator. And He reveals Himself as a God in three persons… Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
 There is one God. How can God be united with Himself? Because there are three persons in the
godhead! We see this expressed in the term “trinity”.

SUPPORTED SCRIPTURES

 Matthew 28:19 “Therefore go and make disciples of all nations,

baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the
Holy Spirit,”
 2 Corinthians 13:14 May the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the
love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all.
 One God…
 Three Persons…
 All different yet equal…

 The trinity revealed at Jesus’ baptism:

 Matthew 3:16-17 As soon as Jesus was baptized, he went up out of
the water. At that moment heaven was opened, and he saw the Spirit
of God descending like a dove and alighting on him. And a voice
from heaven said, “This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well
pleased.”
 Luke 3:21-22 When all the people were being baptized, Jesus was
baptized too. And as he was praying, heaven was opened and the
Holy Spirit descended on him in bodily form like a dove. And a voice
came from heaven: “You are my Son, whom I love; with you I am well
pleased.”
 John 4:23 Yet a time is coming and has now come when the true
worshipers will worship the Father in the Spirit and in truth, for they
are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks.
 John 14:23 Jesus replied, “Anyone who loves me will obey my
teaching. My Father will love them, and we will come to them and
make our home with them.

"

The trinity at work in salvation:

The Father: Ephesians 1:3-4 (NKJV)
3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual
blessing in the heavenly places in Christ,
4 just as He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without
blame before Him in love…

The Son: Ephesians 1:5-7 (NKJV)

5 having predestined us to adoption as sons by Jesus Christ to Himself, according to the good pleasure of
His will,
6 to the praise of the glory of His grace, by which He has made us accepted in the Beloved.
7 In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of His
grace…

The Holy Spirit: Ephesians 1:13-14 (NKJV)

13 In Him you also trusted, after you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation; in whom also,
having believed, you were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise,
14 who is the guarantee of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, to the
praise of His glory.

The God of Creation:

Genesis 1:1-2 (NIV2011)
1 In the beginning God (elohim – plual) created the heavens and the earth.
2 Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of
God was hovering over the waters.
John 1:1-3 (NIV2011)
1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
2 He was with God in the beginning.
3 Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made.

God in mankind:
Genesis 1:26 (NIV2011)
26 Then God said, “Let us make mankind in our image, in our likeness, so that they may rule over the
fish in the sea and the birds in the sky, over the livestock and all the wild animals, and over all the
creatures that move along the ground.”
Genesis 2:7 (NIV2011)
7 Then the LORD God formed a man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the
breath of life, and the man became a living being.

So we see that we are created in God’s image not only in a spiritual sense but in a physical sense as well.
God is Spirit but in John 1:14 (NIV2011)

14 The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the
one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.
Mankind created in the spiritual and physical image of God.

I could go on and on but for the sake of time I will bring this to an end. There is a time coming when God
the Father will send His Son to gather His church and at that time the power and effectiveness of the
Holy Spirit working through the body of Christ will be removed and the antichrist will have his day on the
earth.

Then 7years later The Son comes back with all the redeemed (those who have the Holy Spirit living in
them) and will establish His kingdom on earth that will last 1000 years.

Revelation 21:2-6 (NKJV)

2 Then I, John, saw the holy city, New Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a
bride adorned for her husband.

3 And I heard a loud voice from heaven saying, "Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and He will
dwell with them, and they shall be His people. God Himself will be with them and be their God.

4 And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor
crying. There shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away."

5 Then He who sat on the throne said, "Behold, I make all things new." And He said to me, "Write, for
these words are true and faithful."

6 And He said to me, "It is done! I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End. I will give of
the fountain of the water of life freely to him who thirsts.

Revelation 22:17 (NKJV)

17 And the Spirit and the bride say, "Come!" And let him who hears say, "Come!" And let him who
thirsts come. Whoever desires, let him take the water of life freely.

Is God the Father, Son and Holy Spirit active in your life?

4 Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God, the LORD is one.

THE ADORABLE GODHEAD

a. Terms Defined
The terms "Trinity" and "persons" as related to the Godhead, while not
found in the Scriptures, are words in harmony with Scripture, whereby we
may convey to others our immediate understanding of the doctrine of
Christ respecting the Being of God, as distinguished from "gods many and
lords many." We therefore may speak with propriety of the Lord our God
who is One Lord, as a trinity or as one Being of three persons, and still be
absolutely scriptural.
 John 14:16-17 And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another
advocate to help you and be with you forever— the Spirit of truth.
The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows
him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be[a] in you.]

b. Distinction and Relationship in the Godhead

Christ taught a distinction of Persons in the Godhead which He expressed
in specific terms of relationship, as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, but that
this distinction and relationship, as to its mode is inscrutable and
incomprehensible, because unexplained.

 Luke 1:35 The angel answered, “The Holy Spirit will come on you, and
the power of the Most High will overshadow you. So the holy one to
be born will be called[a] the Son of God.
 1 Corinthians 1:24 but to those whom God has called, both Jews and
Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God.
 Matthew 11:25-27 At that time Jesus said, “I praise you, Father, Lord
of heaven and earth, because you have hidden these things from the
wise and learned, and revealed them to little children. Yes, Father, for
this is what you were pleased to do. “All things have been committed
to me by my Father. No one knows the Son except the Father, and no
one knows the Father except the Son and those to whom the Son
chooses to reveal him.
 1 John 1:3-4 We proclaim to you what we have seen and heard, so
that you also may have fellowship with us. And our fellowship is with
the Father and with his Son, Jesus Christ. We write this to make our[a]
joy complete.

c. Unity of the One Being of Father, Son and Holy Spirit

Accordingly, therefore, there is that in the Father which constitutes him the
Father and not the Son; there is that in the Son which constitutes Him the
Son and not the Father; and there is that in the Holy Spirit which
constitutes Him the Holy Spirit and not either the Father or the Son.
Wherefore the Father is the Begetter, the Son is the Begotten, and the Holy
Spirit is the one proceeding from the Father and the Son. Therefore,
because these three persons in the Godhead are in a state of unity, there is
but one Lord God Almighty and His name one.

 John 1:18 No one has ever seen God, but the one and only Son, who
is himself God and[a] is in closest relationship with the Father, has
made him known.
 John 15:26 When the Advocate comes, whom I will send to you from
the Father—the Spirit of truth who goes out from the Father—he will
testify about me.
 John 17:11 I will remain in the world no longer, but they are still in
the world, and I am coming to you. Holy Father, protect them by the
power of[a] your name, the name you gave me, so that they may be
one as we are one.
 John 17:21 that all of them may be one, Father, just as you are in me
and I am in you. May they also be in us so that the world may believe
that you have sent me.
 Zechariah 14:9 The Lord will be king over the whole earth. On that
day there will be one Lord, and his name the only name.

d. Identity and Cooperation in the Godhead

The Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit are never identical as to Person; nor
confused as to relation; nor divided in respect to the Godhead; nor
opposed as to cooperation. The Son is in the Father and the Father is in the
Son as to relationship. The Son is with the Father and the Father is with the
Son, as to fellowship. The Father is not from the Son, but the Son is from
the Father, as to authority. The Holy Spirit is from the Father and the Son
proceeding, as to nature, relationship, cooperation and authority. Hence,
neither Person in the Godhead either exists or works separately or
independently of the others.

 John 5:17-30 In his defense Jesus said to them, “My Father is always
at his work to this very day, and I too am working.” For this reason
they tried all the more to kill him; not only was he breaking the
Sabbath, but he was even calling God his own Father, making himself
equal with God. Jesus gave them this answer: “Very truly I tell you,
the Son can do nothing by himself; he can do only what he sees his
Father doing, because whatever the Father does the Son also does.
For the Father loves the Son and shows him all he does. Yes, and he
will show him even greater works than these, so that you will be
amazed. For just as the Father raises the dead and gives them life,
even so the Son gives life to whom he is pleased to give it. Moreover,
the Father judges no one, but has entrusted all judgment to the Son,
that all may honor the Son just as they honor the Father. Whoever
does not honor the Son does not honor the Father, who sent him.
“Very truly I tell you, whoever hears my word and believes him who
sent me has eternal life and will not be judged but has crossed over
from death to life. Very truly I tell you, a time is coming and has now
come when the dead will hear the voice of the Son of God and those
who hear will live. For as the Father has life in himself, so he has
granted the Son also to have life in himself. And he has given him
authority to judge because he is the Son of Man. “Do not be amazed
at this, for a time is coming when all who are in their graves will hear
his voice and come out—those who have done what is good will rise
to live, and those who have done what is evil will rise to be
condemned. By myself I can do nothing; I judge only as I hear, and
my judgment is just, for I seek not to please myself but him who sent
me.
 John 5:32 There is another who testifies in my favor, and I know that
his testimony about me is true.
 John 5:37 And the Father who sent me has himself testified
concerning me. You have never heard his voice nor seen his form,
 John 8:17,18 In your own Law it is written that the testimony of two
witnesses is true. I am one who testifies for myself; my other witness
is the Father, who sent me.”

e. The Title, Lord Jesus Christ

The appellation, "Lord Jesus Christ," is a proper name. It is never applied in
the New Testament, either to the Father or to the Holy Spirit. It therefore
belongs exclusively to the Son of God.

 Romans 1:1-3,7 Paul, a servant of Christ Jesus, called to be an apostle

and set apart for the gospel of God— the gospel he promised
beforehand through his prophets in the Holy Scriptures regarding his
Son, who as to his earthly life[a] was a descendant of David, To all in
Rome who are loved by God and called to be his holy people: Grace
and peace to you from God our Father and from the Lord Jesus
Christ.
 2 John 1:3 Grace, mercy and peace from God the Father and from
Jesus Christ, the Father’s Son, will be with us in truth and love.

f. The Lord Jesus Christ, God with Us

The Lord Jesus Christ, as to His divine and eternal nature, is the proper and
only Begotten of the Father, but as to His human nature, He is the proper
Son of Man. He is therefore, acknowledged to be both God and man; who
because He is God and man is "Immanuel," God with us.

  Matthew 1:23 “The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and
they will call him Immanuel”[a] (which means “God with us”).
 1 John 4:2 This is how you can recognize the Spirit of God: Every
spirit that acknowledges that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is
from God,
 1 John 4:10 This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us
and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins.
 1 John 4:14 And we have seen and testify that the Father has sent his
Son to be the Savior of the world.
 Revelation 1:13 and among the lampstands was someone like a son
of man,[a] dressed in a robe reaching down to his feet and with a
golden sash around his chest.
 Revelation 1:17 When I saw him, I fell at his feet as though dead. Then
he placed his right hand on me and said: “Do not be afraid. I am the
First and the Last.

g. The Title, Son of God

Since the name "Immanuel" embraces both God and man in the one
Person, our Lord Jesus Christ, it follows that the title, Son of God, describes
His proper deity, and the title, Son of Man, His proper humanity. Therefore,
the title Son of God, belongs to the order of eternity, and the title, Son of
Man, to the order of time.

 Matthew 1:21-23 She will give birth to a son, and you are to give him
the name Jesus,[a] because he will save his people from their sins.” All
this took place to fulfill what the Lord had said through the prophet:
“The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and they will call him
Immanuel”[b] (which means “God with us”).
 2 John 1:3 Grace, mercy and peace from God the Father and from
Jesus Christ, the Father’s Son, will be with us in truth and love.

 1 John 3:8 [KJV/NIV]

 Hebrews 7:3 [KJV/NIV]
 Hebrews 1:1-13 [KJV/NIV]

h. Transgression of the Doctrine of Christ

Wherefore, it is a transgression of the Doctrine of Christ to say that Jesus
Christ derived the title, Son of God, solely from the fact of the incarnation,
or because of His relation to the economy of redemption. Therefore, to
deny that the Father is a real and eternal Father, and that the Son is a real
and eternal Son, is a denial of the distinction and relationship in the Being
of God; a denial of the Father, and the Son; and a displacement of the truth
that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh.

 2 John 9 [KJV/NIV]
 John 1:1 [KJV/NIV]
 John 1:2 [KJV/NIV]
 John 1:14 [KJV/NIV]
 John 1:18 [KJV/NIV]
 John 1:29 [KJV/NIV]
 John 1:49 [KJV/NIV]
 1 John 2:22,23 [KJV/NIV]
 1 John 4:1-5 [KJV/NIV]
 Hebrews 12:2 [KJV/NIV]

i. Exaltation of Jesus Christ as Lord

The Son of God, our Lord Jesus Christ, having by Himself purged our sins,
sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high; angels and
principalities and powers having been made subject unto Him. And having
been made both Lord and Christ, He sent the Holy Spirit that we, in the
name of Jesus, might bow our knees and confess that Jesus Christ is Lord
to the glory of God the Father until the end, when the Son shall become
subject to the Father that God may be all in all.

 Hebrews 1:3 [KJV/NIV]

 1 Peter 3:22 [KJV/NIV]
 Acts 2:32-36 [KJV/NIV]
 Romans 14:11 [KJV/NIV]
 1 Corinthians 15:24-28 [KJV/NIV]

j. Equal Honor to the Father and to the Son

Wherefore, since the Father has delivered all judgment unto the Son, it is
not only the express duty of all in heaven and on earth to bow the knee,
but it is an unspeakable joy in the Holy Spirit to ascribe unto the Son all the
attributes of Deity, and to give Him all honor and the glory contained in all
the names and titles of the Godhead except those which express
relationship (see Distinction and Relationship in the Godhead, Unity of the
One Being of Father, Son and Holy Spirit , and Identity and Cooperation in
the Godhead) and thus honor the Son even as we honor the Father.

 Revelation 5:6-14 [KJV/NIV]
