The Central Government has officially approved 8.1% rate of interest on Employees’ Provident Fund (EPF)
deposits for 2021-22, which is down by 40 basis points from 8.5% provided in 2020-21.

• This new interest rate is the lowest since 1977-78(over four-decade low), when it stood at 8%.
• This approval has been made concurrently by the Ministry of Labour and Employment (MoL&E),

bonds, and 15% in equity through ETFs (Exchange-Traded Fund). The earnings from both debt and equity are
used to calculate the interest payment.

this both employees and employers together contribute 24% of the basic salary plus Dearness Allowance (DA)
on a monthly basis.

• As a part of the PACE Mission’s Early Adopter program, Ambee will integrate valuable PACE data
into its offerings.
• With access to NASA’s hyperspectral and polarimetric PACE data, Ambee’s air quality datasets will
become more accurate.
Note: Ambee is a global platform for hyperlocal and geospatial datasets on air quality, weather, pollen, soil,
water vapour and fire.
About NASA’s PACE Mission:
i.NASA’s PACE mission, currently in the design phase of mission development, is scheduled to launch in 2024.
ii.This will extend and improve NASA’s more than 20-year record of satellite observations of global ocean
biology, aerosols (tiny particles suspended in the atmosphere), and clouds.
iii.The mission will advance the assessment of ocean health by measuring the distribution of phytoplankton,
tiny plants and algae that sustain the marine food web.
iv.The data collected under the PACE Mission will be used by the scientific community(universities) and
government agencies to forecast weather and develop research that can support the mitigation of climate
change.
2 fundamental science goals:
• To extend key systematic ocean colour, aerosol, and cloud data records for Earth system and climate
studies.
• To address new and emerging science questions using its advanced instruments, surpassing the
capabilities of previous and current missions.
Background of PACE Mission:
i.In India, air pollution was the cause of an estimated 1.6 million deaths in 2019 – the highest globally –
according to a report by the Lancet Commission on Pollution and Health.
ii.As of January 2022, 132 cities have pollution levels below national standards. More than 90% of the country
