REFLECTION ABOUT BYAHE NI DREWS FLAVOR OF ILOCOS

1. What were the ilocano foods that had been influenced by foreign
flavors?
- According to the video I’ve watched early. The ilocano foods
that had been influenced by foreign flavors is the poque poque
in Hawaii na nagustuhan ng mga Pilipinong nagtatrabaho sa
Hawaii at ito’y kanilang ginaya noong sila’y umuwi dito sa
Pilipinas. Poqui poqui is a vegetable dish comprised of
eggplants cooked in onions, garlic, and tomatoes before being
garnished with beaten eggs. It comes from the Ilocos area and
is frequently eaten there for breakfast with steamed rice or for
lunch as a side dish with grilled fish or fried pork.
2. What were the distinct characteristics of preparing ilocano foods
that could be marketed internationally?
- The powerful fusion of sweet, sour, and salty flavors that
defines Philippine cuisine. Filipino cuisine is frequently served
all at once in a single presentation, in contrast to other Asian
cuisines, which may be recognized for a more subdued delivery
and presentation. Filipino food typically pairs something sweet
with something salty, creating pleasantly surprise combos.
3. What is your overall impression of ilocano foods?
- My overall impression of ilocano foods that I’ve watched on
biyahe ni Drews vlog is all if food looks good and it looks
delicious and super creative. Ilocano cuisine is one of the few in
the Philippines that is without foreign influences and thus what
makes unique.
4. What ilocano foods do you appreciate most? Why?
- The ilocano foods I appreciate the most is itlog ng abuhos.
These are ant eggs, and the Ilocanos prize this food highly.
These enormous ants are known as “hantik” locally, and “buos”
or “abuos” among Ilocanos. There is even a festival dedicated
to these “itlog ti abuos,” or ant eggs, which are a well-known
delicacy in Banna, Ilocos Norte. Only tomatoes and garlic are
sauteed in the typical dish. Although slightly acidic, it’s still
extremely nice and flavorful. Actually I tried to eat this when I
am 15 years old it super delicious. And also natry ko na
manguha nito sa Puno may Bahay sila pinaikot na mga dahon
o bilog na dahon. And also natry ko na itong kainin kahit hindi
luto malinamnam pa rin.
