⚠️Basically “ I need to ~ “ in Japanese is not frequently used by us because it's kind of formal. We prefer to use “ I have to” or “I must to” instead.

（ The Way to Make Short Negative Form ）
Form
This form is mainly used for 2 patterns, which is a in casual talk, and in a RU-Verbs
conjunction clause such as when, while, after, before. ・食べる→食べない ( not eat )
In a Casual Talk → 今夜は夜ご飯を食べないよ。 ( I won’t have dinner tonight. )
Ex. ・見る→見ない (not see / watch)
A ：今日の宿題した？ → 今日はテレビを見ないよ。 ( I won’t watch TV today. )
B ：うんん、今日は宿題をしないよ。 U-verbs
= No, I don’t do today's homework. ・ Change dictionary form from U syllable to A syllable. And add な
A ：昨日の宿題した？ い.
B ：うんん、昨日の宿題をしなかったよ。 → 読む→読ま＋ない＝読まない ( not read )
= No, I didn't do yesterday's homework. ・今日は本を読まないよ。 ( I won’t read any books today. )
In a conjunction clause ⚠️Only A syllable in あ column changes to “ わ”
Ex. → 会う→会わ＋ない＝会わない not see / meet
・友達と遊ばない時に、宿題をします。 ・明日は、友達と会わないよ。
= When I don't hang out with my friends, I will do my homework. I won’t see other friends tomorrow.

( casual ) = I have to ~ / I must ~ 　
〜ないといけない ( formal )
⚠️There are some other expressions of “have to” and ”must ” in Japanese, but the expressions above are commonly used by us.
Even in Japanese, there is not a big different definitions between “have to” and “ must “. Therefore, you don’t have to consider the use of them.
