POP CYCLE LESSON PLAN

Lesson Plan for ELA:

Objective: I can answer text dependent questions.

Beginning:

 Students will do a warmup, reading out loud a small passage 3 times.


 We will then read it together as a class.
 We will go over our objective, and I can statement “I can read a story and answer questions
by looing back at what I read”
 I will go over vocabulary words from the story we will read: “puzzles, retraced, silver wear,
mystery”
 I will have a power point with vocabulary words, visuals and definitions.
 I will tell them the title of the story “The solver” and we will do a quick picture walk
 I will ask “Make a prediction: what do you think will happen in the story?”

Body:
 I will read the story as students follow along on Class Kick.
 Stop at page 1 paragraph 2 “what is the problem so far”
 Stop page 2 paragraph 4 “Do you think Kevin will find the glasses, if so where?”
 Stop page last paragraph “Where were the glasses, was your prediction right”

Students will work on completing class kick questions about the story.
I will model to them how to find question 1: “What was the first question Kevin asked his mom”

“What page do you think I will find the answer in “(the beginning page 1)
Let’s look back! I will model how to look back in the text to find the answer.

 Students will work independently on answering the rest of the questions

End:
 Once students are done answering questions, they will turn in Class Kick, and we will go over
the answers
 I will let students help out by reading the question and the answer they wrote.

 I will remind students of their learning plan and they will log out and get their work done on
our Online school

 I will grade Class Kick’s my rubric will be as follows


 3 questions out of 5 right (met standard)
 Less than 3 questions right (has not met standard)
 I will assess how my class did and whether I need to reteach whole group or in small group
 If 75% or more passes I will reteach in small group
 If less than 75% passed I will reteach in whole group

Estimated Time: 45 minutes

Accommodations:

visual aids or pictures for vocabulary words before story (IEP and ELL students)

Audio recording for questions and multiple-choice answers on class kick (IEP and ELL students)

Modifying Class Kick questions for my students with IEP (Questions will show were they can find the
answer example page 1 paragraph 2)
