“Environmental Protection”
CWTS Reaction Paper

My reaction about this webinar is very helpful and motivating since it gives a lot of ways
to protect the environment. This webinar is all about embracing and learning those environmental
conservation methods to protect our beloved Mother Earth. And speaking about learning, it is all
about applying those helpful tips in our everyday lives to take care of the environment. For this
webinar, it is a no-nonsense one to realize that it’s not too late to protect our home planet. Without
further ado, let’s get this webinar summary started.
The first speaker of the Environmental Protection webinar is Ms. Rachelle Lacanlale
and she talks about the “Introduction to Circular Economic Products and their Effects on the
Environment”. First, she talks about the issue regarding plastic waste throughout the world and she
has a clever comparison between an eco-bag, a paper bag and a plastic bag and obviously, the eco-
bag emerges as the most recyclable among the three. She literally mentioned that there are 500
million plastic straws that are used everyday and they’re one of the most numerous plastic items to
dispose of. She also talks about the ever-worsening environmental status of land masses where
those plants and trees are cut every minute in the size of 20 football fields and the plastic pouches of
1.8 million sold items last Shopee 9.9 Big Sale that could be a bad side effect for the environment.
And finally, she talks about the circular economic solutions consisting of choose, scan, return and
repeat, the principles of a circular economy and the “LOOP” community recycling philosophy. The
second and last speaker of this webinar is Engr. Oliver Villamena and he talks about “Recognizing the
Youth’s Role in Mitigating Climate Change through Innovative Circular Economy Ways”. First, he talks
about his profession as an Acting City Environmental Management Officer/Pollution Control Officer
and the waste process flow that consists of solid waste, collection and transport, processing to
recycling for recyclable compostable special wastes and transfer to final disposal for residuals. He
literally mentioned the frequency of collection together with the manner and policy of collection to
properly manage and organize those different types of waste everyday. Those different types of waste
are biodegradable and residual waste, recyclable waste, special waste “Kuyagot”, used cooking oil,
food waste or leftovers and market waste. And finally, he talks about the different recycling methods
to turn into various objects such as decorative paving blocks and compost for plants, and the valuable
“Waste to Resource” strategy that is very helpful to always remember that cleanliness starts by
putting a small waste like a wrapper of biscuits into their pockets.
To conclude about this webinar, we should take care of our beloved Mother Earth before
it’s too late by applying those clever and helpful circular economic tips and tricks. In short, it’s up to us
and even the worldwide government to start thinking and using those circular economic methods to
efficiently reduce a lot of waste. Those circular economic strategies like segregation and reusable
product designs are very helpful to use those pieces of waste into useful materials. And at the end of
the day, it is important that we should be willing to utilize those circular economical ways to protect
and serve our ever-beloved planet Earth. That’s all of my takeaways about this webinar and as
always, stay safe.
