EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

Demand for bottled drinking water has been growing rapidly since 1990s, increasing
nearly 400% in the last decade. According to the National Agency for Food and Drug
Administration and Control (NAFDAC) in on October 27th 2013. According to Orhii,
package water is a fast growing business in Nigeria today, water constitutes about N8
billion daily, as a result of declining consumer confidence in the safety and quality of
municipal water supplies.

OPPORTUNITY

Bottled Drinking Water:


To take advantage of this expanding market for drinking water, SMYTH Bottled
Water Company has been established to provide home and office delivery of bottled
water in Mushin, Lagos State and its environs. After months of extensive industry and
market research, the company has developed a solid business plan to enter the market
for bottled water. Smyth will generate revenue as a result of the sales of her bottled.

TEAM MANAGEMENT

Oladokun Lekan Timileyin is the owner and the president of Smyth, bringing years of
experience in water bottling and delivery to the company.

The company has applied for certification as a man owned business, which is in
progress.

Smyth Bottled Water Company is a regional manufacturer of bottled waters in Mushin


Lagos State, Nigeria.

Corporate Structure:
Smyth Bottled Water Company was established in 1995 as a Lagos based corporation.
Oladokun Lekan Timileyin owns 100% of the stock of the company. The company is
registered with Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) and National Agency for Food
and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC). NAFDAC REG. NO: B1-2615.

Company Product:
Smyth Bottled Water will be made and bottled by the bottling department of the
company, who will fill the 60cl bottles and seal them into packs for onward sales.

Trade mark:
The trade name Smyth is in the process of being registered, and the product logo is
being finalized for imprinting on the bottles.

TARGET MARKET

When it comes to selling bottled water, there is indeed a wide range of available
customers. In essence, our target market can’t be restricted to just a group of people, but
all those who resides in our target market locations. In view of that we have conducted
our market research and we have ideas of what our target market would be expecting
from us. We are in business to engage in wholesale distribution and to retail bottled
water to the following groups of people:

 Hotels
 Restaurant and Canteens
 Event Planners, Parties and Corporate Functions
 Corporate Executives
 Government Officials
 Business People
 Celebrities
 Everybody in our target market location.

OPERATIONS

Locations & Facilities:


The plant will be located in Mushin Lagos State, Nigeria. Which is located in a
conducive area. It will have an installed capacity of 2000 Bottles per hour working on a
single shift of 8 hours a day, and for 300 day a year. However to allow for brand and
sales maturity the production has been planned at 120,000 bottled packs of 12 per
annum in the first year of production and increasing the capacity yearly.

The plant will use Reverse Osmosis coupled with micro filtration and Ozonator water
treatment method this is to ensure compliance with the National Agency for Food and
Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) standard and to capture the high quality
conscious Water drinking Nigerians.

COMPETITION

A close study of the bottled water production industry reveals that the market has
become much more intensely competitive over a last decade. As a matter of fact will
have to be highly creative, customer centric and proactive if we want to survive in this
industry. We are aware of the stiffer competition and we are well prepared to compete
favorable with other bottled water production companies in Mushin Lagos State and
throughout Nigeria.
Smyth Bottled Water is launching a standard bottled water brand that will indeed
become the preferred choice of residence of Mushin Lagos State and the entire city
where our bottled water will be retailed.
Part of what is going to count as competitive advantage for Smyth Bottled Water is the
vast experience of our management team, we have people on board who are highly
experienced and understands how to grow business from the scratch to becoming a
national phenomenon. So also the varieties of bottled water in terms of flavor,
packaging and size that we produce, our large distribution network and of course our
excellent customer service culture will definitely count as a strong strength for the
business.
SALES AND MARKETING STRATEGY
Before choosing a location for Smyth Bottled Water and also the kind of distilled drinks
to produce, we conduct a thorough market survey and feasibility studies in order for us
to be able to penetrate the available market in our target market locations. We hired
experts who have good understanding of the bottled water production to help us
develop marketing strategies that will help us achieve our business goal of winning a
larger percentage of the available market in Mushin, Lagos State and South-west. In
summary Smyth Bottled Water will adopt the following sales and marketing approach
to sell our drinks.
 Introduce our bottled water brand by sending introductory letters to residence,
bottled water merchants and other stakeholders in Mushin Lagos, Nigeria.
 Opening our bottled water production company with a party so as to capture the
attention of residence who are our first targets.
 Engage in road show in targeted communities from time to time to sell our products.
 Advertise our products in community based Newspapers, Local TV and Radio
Stations.
 Leverage on the internet to promote our bottled water brands.

At Smyth Bottled Water Company, our payment policy is all inclusive because we are

FINANCIAL PLAN

Forecast:
The company financial target is to ensure return on investment from all our product and
we are targeting to invest more in this business to increase our output for next year.
Budget:
The marketing budget for the 1st year is N400,000, 2nd year will be N600,000 while
that of the 3rd year will be N550,000 this budget will aid the company to design
modules that will enable the company to quickly capture a large percent of the potential
market. All funding for marketing activities will be generated from the business as
earnings from operation, not from start -up-capital.
Start-Up Cost:
The company overall start-up cost is 2million.
Financing Needed:
Smyth Bottled Water Company is man owned business that is owned and financed by
Oladokun Lekan Timileyin. He do not intended to welcome any external business
partners, which is why he has decided to restrict the sourcing of the start-up capital to 3
major sources. These are the areas will intend generating our start-up capital:
 Generate part of the start-up capital from personal savings.
 Source for soft loans from family members and friends.
 Apply for loan from bank.
