1. a. Write the first five terms of the following arithmetic sequences.
a 1=5 d=6
Solution:
We know that
a n=a1 + ( n−1 ) d
So,
a n=5+ ( n−1 ) 6
a n=6 n−1
Putting n=2,
a 2=12−1=11
Putting n=3,
a 3=18−1=17
Putting n=4,
a 4=24−1=23
Putting n =5.
a 5=30−1=29
Hence the five arithmetic’s sequences are 5,11,17,23,29
A) a 1=2 a12=46
We know that
a n=a1 + ( n−1 ) d
Putting n=12
a 12=2+ (12−1 ) d
46=2+ ( 12−1 ) d
44=11 d
d=4
Solution:
Using,

2. Suppose a survey of car enthusiasts showed that over a certain time period, 30 drove
cars with automatic transmissions, 20 drove cars with standard transmissions, and 12
drove cars of both types. If everyone in the survey drove cars with one of these
transmissions, how many people participated in the survey?
Solution:
On the given condition:
We have,
30 drove cars with automatic transmission,
20 drove cars with standard transmissions,
12 drove cars of both types,
So,
30+20=50
And then subtracting 12, we get the required solution.
50-12=38
Hence 38 people participated in the survey.
