ORPHEUS AND EURYDICE

CHARACTERS

o ORPHEUS – a legendary musician, poet, and prophet in ancient Greek


religion and myth
o EURYDICE – was an oak nymph and wife of Orpheus
o HADES – king of the Underworld and ruler of the dead
o PERSEPHONE – is the unwilling queen of the Underworld
o CHARON – is the ferryman of Hades who carries souls across the rivers
Styx and Acheron
o CERBERUS – a multiheaded dog that guards the gates of the Underworld
to prevent the dead from leaving

SETTINGS

o The wedding happened in the Thrace (Northeastern part of Greece), the


rest of the story continuate in the underworld where Orpheus is trying to
resurrect and bring Eurydice soul to the living world.

o A great musician fell with an oak nymph Eurydice, they decided to get
married but Eurydice died shortly after getting bitten by a snake. Orpheus
couldn’t accept this so he ventured to the underworld even if it is forbidden
for a living person, he used his music skills for Charon to let him pass the
THEME

o The main theme of the story is love is eternal that even people have faith
and loved their partners even after death and that they will do everything
just to be with them.
