1. Definition of Automotive Engine

The fuelconsuming machine that provides the motive power for automobiles, airplanes, tractors,
buses, and motorcycles and is carried in the vehicle.

2. Enumerate the Engine (Gas) Accessory System & state its functional definition.

Fuel pump−¿There may be a number of fuel pumps: low pressure, high

pressure, afterburner pump and also a speed-sensitive governor

Generators, −¿often one for engine systems and one for the aircraft

Constant Speed Drive −¿to maintain a constant frequency AC generator

Lubricating oil pumps−¿ used to supply oil to lubrication points, e.g. for plain bearings.

Hydraulic pump−¿ used in hydraulic drive systems and can be hydrostatic or hydrodynamic.

High-pressure−¿ air compressor (undercarriage actuation, etc.)

Low-pressure air compressor−¿ (cabin air conditioning), where this is not provided by tapping
engine compressor bleed air.

Engine starter−¿ a device used to rotate (crank) an internal-combustion engine so as to initiate

the engine's operation under its own power.

Tachometer sensor drives−¿an instrument measuring the rotation speed of a shaft or disk, as in a

motor or other machine.

Auxiliary gearbox drive−¿ to a further gearbox that may be required in some installations.
3. What are the Type of Fuel System.
Viewed from the mechanism, there are three types of fuel system. They are rotary pump fuel
system, individual fuel system, and common rail system.
4. What is the basic carburation principle.
The principle of the carburetor is based on the Bernoulli principle. In simple words, we can say
that as the velocity increases then the pressure will decrease. The air and gasoline go into the
combustion chamber of the engine through the carburetor.
