“Unity over Diversity: Respeto sa Pakikipag-talastasan”

What does it mean about "Unity over Diversity?"

Unity is a case or illustration representing being as one or a whole. As

diversity, it is a case of being or having dissimilarities. When diversity merges with
unity, this is where individuals begin to listen, comprehend, respect, as well as
learn and adopt. Unity in diversity plays a vital role in every individual's life to
help them learn, understand, and grow (Presbyterian Senior Living, 2022).

Unity over Diversity: Respeto sa Pakikipag-talastasan— every individual has

their practices and beliefs. Each culture, language, ideology, religion, sect,
class, ethnicity, etc. cannot be judged against an absolute standard of
civilization; therefore, people of one classification are not intrinsically superior or
inferior to another. We are just different. When diversity merges with unity, it
educates individuals to exchange information wherein they find methods such
as listening, learning, appreciation, acceptance, and, if possible, adopting
despite their differences without invalidating and disrespecting one another.
Personally, exchanging one another's knowledge or pakikipag-talastasan is not
about outstanding others by just spitting words that pop up on one's mind or
disrespecting the other's opinion; it is about spitting reasonable viewpoints and
facts that will contribute to a successful and effective system.
As Abhijit Naskar said, "Differences are healthy; there lies the scope for
inquiry, and in inquiry lies the scope for learning. Differences turn unhealthy only
when we make them the cause for hatred" (A Quote from All for Acceptance,
2020). Unity over diversity offers everyone more discoveries that lead to
innovations that can result in a successful and effective system and
transformation from which each of us can benefit. In addition, it will also provide
improvements and growth, producing culturally vibrant and varied communities
and preventing stagnation.
