DETAILED LESSON PLAN

DLP No.: 4 Learning Area: Math Grade Level: 10 Quarter: 1 Duration: 60 minutes
Learning Determines arithmetic means and nth term of an arithmetic
Competency/ie sequence.*** Code: M10AL-Ib-c-1
s:
Key Arithmetic means are the terms between any two nonconsecutive terms of an arithmetic
Concepts / sequence. In finding arithmetic means, it is important to know the common difference
Understanding
s to be using the rule an =a1 +(n−1 )d .
Developed:
1. Objectives
Knowledge Supply the missing term(s) in a sequence
Skills Determine the indicated arithmetic mean(s) of a given arithmetic sequence
Attitudes Observe neatness in one’s work
Values Show willingness in sharing one’s ideas
2. Content Determining Arithmetic Means
3. Learning LM in Math 10, Powerpoint Presentation, Projector/TV, Laptop/Netbook, Workbook(WS 1.0),
Resources/ Chalk, Chalkboard
Materials/Eq
uipment
4. Procedures (indicate the steps you will undertake to teach the lesson and indicate the no. of minutes
each
step will consume)
Preparation A.Prayer
9 minutes B.Attendance and Physical Arrangement Check
C.Conduct a review on arithmetic sequence
Present a story:
Mrs. Perez has 3 healthy boys kids. They named EJ, Franz and Jude whose ages is 4 years
gap. If EJ was the eldest and born last 1998, and Jude as the youngest and born last 2006,
how old is Franz now?
Presentation
25 minutes ACTIVITY (Checking of Assignment DLP No. 3)

In a group of 3 members, supply the missing terms of the arithmetic sequence below and the
first group who can finish first with the correct answer earn additional points recorded in their
index card.

1. 17, 14, ___, ___, 5

2. -2, 4, ___, ___, 22
3. 13, ___, ___, 1, -3

ANALYSIS

1. How did you find the activity?

2. Were you able to get the missing terms in each sequence? How? (by using the rule
and the Short Cut Method)
 Using the Rule, an =a1 +(n−1 )d in no. 1
5=17+(5−1 )d
5=17+4 d
5−17=4 d
−12=4d
−3=d
d=−3
So the sequence is 17, 14, 11, 8, 5
 Using the Short Cut Method,
5-17 = -12, subtracting the last term by the first term
5-1 = 4 , subtracting the position of terms both 5 and 17
-12 ÷ 4 = -3, the common difference
ABSTRACTION

Consider this problem,

1. What are the three terms between 2 and 34 of an arithmetic sequence?
By using the Short Cut Method,
34 - 2 = 32, subtracting the last term by the first term
5 – 1 = 4, subtracting the position of terms both 34 and 2
32 ÷ 4 = 8
Therefore, the three terms between 2 and 34 are 10, 18, and 26.

How do you find arithmetic means?

Practice Think-Pair-Share
8 minutes
Let the students find a partner. Let each partner answer the following:

Insert the indicated number of arithmetic means between the given first and last terms of an
arithmetic sequence. (taken from WS 3.0, page 5, letter D nos. 1-3)

1. [1]

2. [6]

3. [3]

5. Assessment (indicate whether it is thru Observation and/ or Talking/conferencing to

learners and/or Analysis of Learner’s Products and/or Tests)
Insert the indicated number of arithmetic means between the given first and last terms of an
arithmetic sequence.
Written Test
16 minutes 1. 27 and -3 [1]
2. 8 and 18 [4]
3. -7 and 2 [2]
6. Assignment (indicate whether it is for Reinforcement and/or Enrichment and/or
Enhancement of the day’s lesson or Preparation for a new lesson)
Enhancement
of the day’s Refer to your Workbook and answer Worksheet 3.0, letter D numbers 4-5,on page 5
