Assignment 2

The assignment should be worked out by Wednesday (March 12, 2014)

1. Design the following:
The aim is to use the 4/2 way double pilot valve (this could be a 5/2 way valve if
preferred) to select auto, or manual mode of operations via two push buttons at
the base of the circuit. If the button (signal element) labeled with auto is pressed
the 4/2 way valve is switched to give a permanent output to a target task. In order
to remove/stop output to the task, the button marked manual must be pressed.
This resets the effect of auto button at 4/2 way valve. Accordingly, the output of
the 4/2 value to the target task should be controlled by a push button. This button
then has to be pressed each time a signal is required at the target task.

2. Prepare the sequence and the design for the following problem

Plastic components are to be embossed with a serial number; they are manually
placed into a holder. This holder is then fed by means of a double acting cylinder
(A), to a position below the embossing cylinder (B), once this location is reached
the embossing cylinder (B) will extend and emboss the component. Once the
component is embossed, cylinder (B) must fully retract first cylinder (A) may
retract to its initial position. Add time delay of 20 sec before repeating the cycle to
help removing the embossed component is removed from the holder and load a
new component.

3. We have four double acting cylinders (A, B, C and D). There is a need to
generate the following sequence of motion with these cylinders. Draw the
required timing diagram of each cylinder throughout the motion and design
the necessary Pneumatic logic system implementing the required motion.

Support the design using sensors to detect the motion of each cylinder and
trigger the required sequence of motion accordingly. Do the simulation of
your design after explaining it properly.
