Activity 1

How are you connected with the world?

Think of how you are connected with the other parts of the world. The following questions could
guide you in your thinking:
Do you have any family, friends or relatives living in other countries? How do you communicate
with them? Have you been to other countries (for leisure, work, or studies, among others?)
1. What are your thoughts?
We live in a world where we are connected with other people socially, politically, economically
and environmentally. Increased trade between countries, the growth of international
organisations and changes in transport and communications technology mean that these
connections are rapidly increasing.

2. I have a Twitter account, and I follow some personalities. Do you feel you are connected
with other countries in the globe? Why or why not?

Yes, through social media we are somehow connected. We can feel the interaction with
every post they made.

3. What are the aspects in your life do you identify as connected with other citizens of the
world? (family, friendship, consumption, studies and readings, etc.)

The aspects of my life that identify as connected with other citizens of the world,
are family, consumption, studies, readings, movies, or series. Family, I have a friend and
other relatives that work and live there. Although we don't live in the same country, we still
keep in touch and know about each other's lives. In terms of consumption, I usually order
from foreign products such as the US, Korea, and Japan. Because they produce qualified
goods, can use for a long time, and friendly environment. On other hand, reading is the
most popular to update information over the world. Everybody can read books in their
country or books in different countries. So that makes everyone feel relaxed and
comfortable about knowledge. Finally, we have a lot of aspects to connect with citizens
over the world.

4. How do you feel being connected or disconnected with other people in the world? Why?

No-one can deny that we are more connected through technology than ever before. We
can connect to everyone and everything, no matter where we are in the world. So why are
so many of us feeling more disconnected from the world around us and increasingly
feeling more alone? One of the reasons is that our relationships have become more
superficial. We can’t form meaningful relationships with people unless we talk about real
issues and share real problems.
