Solution
Azeotropic Mixture :
Binary mixtures having the same composition in liquid and
vapour phase and boil at a constant temperature.
Types of Azeotropes
Introduction to Colligative
properties
Types of Colligative properties :

a)Relative Lowering of Vapour Pressure (R.L.V.P)

b)Elevation of Boiling Point (E.B.P)
c)Depression of Freezing Point (D.F.P)
d)Osmotic Pressure (O.P)
Relative Lowering of Vapour Pressure (R.L.V.P)
The vapour pressure of water at 20°C is 17.54 mmHg. When 20 g
of a non volatile solute is dissolved in 100 g of water, the vapour
pressure is lowered by 0.3 mm Hg. What is the molecular weight of the
substance?
An aqueous solution of 2% (w/w) non-volatile solute exerts a
pressure of 1.004 bar at the normal boiling point of the solvent.
What is the molar mass of the solute?
Vapour pressure of a pure liquid X is 2 atm at 300 K. It is lowered
to 1 atm on dissolving 1g of Y in 20g of liquid X. If molar mass of
X is 200, what is the molar mass of Y ?
The vapour pressure of benzene at a certain temp. is 640 mm Hg .
A non-volatile-non-electrolyte solid weighing 2.175g is added to
39.0 g of benzene. The vapour pressure of the solution is 600 mm Hg. What
is the molecular weight of the solid substance ?
Vapour pressure of CCl4 at 25ºC is 143 mm Hg. 0.5g of a
non-volatile solute (mol. wt. 65) is dissolved in 100 cm3 of CCl4 .
Find the vapour pressure of the solution. (Density of CCl4 = 1.58 g/cm3 )
