Job Description:
Project Background:
The Linking Agriculture and Natural Resource Management towards Nutrition Security (LANN+) project is
designed to use the nutrition based approach and achieve the nutrition security in Balkh, Jawzjan and
Samangan provinces of Afghanistan. LANN+ links the goal of Zero Hunger to the five key areas of
agriculture, resource management, water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH), alternative incomes and
knowledge for improving nutrition security.
 
The LANN+ project has been designed for the duration of 32 months with a partnership of
Welthungerhilfe (WHH), Empowerment Center for Women (ECW) and Partners in Revitalization and
Building (PRB). The overall objective of the project is to contribute to improved food and nutrition security
and to enable a conducive policy environment by an integrated multi-sectoral approach towards improved
nutrition at provincial and national level in Afghanistan. The project will be implemented with close
coordination and consultation of Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock (MAIL/DAIL), National
Environmental Protection Agency (NEPA), Ministry of Public Health (MOPH), Ministry of Women Affairs
(MOWA), UN Food Security and Agriculture and Nutrition Clusters.
 
ECW’ Project Partnership:
ECW is partnering with WHH to implement two outputs of this project in Jawzjan, Samangan, Balkh and
Kabul provinces i.e. 1) Targeted Communities sustainably manage their natural resources to stabilize
their livelihood base (Natural Resources Management) and II) The communities and the relevant
government authorities at national and sub-national levels are aware and linking relevant national sector
policies in order to improve the nutrition situation.
Purpose of the Position:
The purpose of this position is to implement the activities of Output-II of the project in the target 60
communities with the guidance of NRM Engineer and Project Manager. 
 
Job Description:

 Participate in the project kick off meetings undertaking in all three provinces
 Develop weekly and monthly action plans with consultation of Project Manager
 Visits the target communities and identify the target 60 communities in six districts through
following specific selection criteria
 Enlist and organize coordination meetings with CBNRM committees where exist and setup
where required, and inform them on the project purpose and benefits
 Organise bi-annual trainings for the committees on the NRM policies, advocacy and NRM
conservation approaches, and NRM for improved food and nutrition security
 Link the committees with NEPA and MAIL, through CDCs and coordination meetings at
district and provincial level
 Organize one day’ workshops with all the committees on conducting an NRM survey in the
target villages

 Coordinate and endorse the action plans with MAIL and NEPA
 Assist CBNRM committees to implement and monitor the action plans on the basis of people’
priority and needs with joint consultation of the NRM Engineer
 Conduct an ecological survey on the MAPs &WF in Balkh and Jawzjan
  Identify and train 40 HHs on MAPs collection, processing, packing and marketability
 Facilitate HHs to develop MAPs nurseries in the target provinces
 Organize MAPs & WF Exhibition for market development and popularization
 Develop weekly and monthly reports and submit to Project Manager
 Any other task assigned by the Project Manager and NRM Engineer

Job Requirements:
Education:
Bachelor degree in Agriculture or Environment disciplines.
 
Work experience:      

 A minimum of 5 years of professional experience in Agriculture, Food security, NRM etc.

 Work experience preferably with INGOs or NGOs
 Belong to the local communities/districts         

 
Languages:                

 Proficiency in written and spoken English

 Excellent speaking and understanding of both Pashto and Dari are required.

 
Computer skills:        
Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office application.
 
Others:

 Strong community mobilization skills

 Excellent communication and presentation skills
 Good reporting skills
 Willingness to travel to villages
 Good knowledge of natural resources and policies
