LESSON PLAN IN INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC OF

MINDANAO

I. LEARNING OBJECTIVE: At the end of the lesson, the students will be able to:

1. Identify the musical instruments and other sound sources of representative music
selection from Mindanao. (MU7LV-IIb-g3)
2. Discover ways of producing sounds on a variety of sources similar to instruments
studied (MU7LV-IIb-g4)

Teacher’s Activity

1. Prayer
 Before we begin with our class for today, let us all remember that we are in the
most holy presence of the Lord, in the name of the father, and of the son, the
holy spirit amen.

 For the safety of everybody during this time of pandemic, even you are at home
or not, may I request watch this video.
3. Motivation
 May I remind everyone to please turn off your microphones. Just turn it on if you
want to share something. I encourage everyone to participate and respect the
opinions of others. Again, there is no wrong answer in this class. Everyone is
welcome to share their insights, understood? We have to respect each other’s
opinion. Understood? Very Good!

APPLICATION:

Activity 1

Direction: In a one half (1/2) sheet of pad paper, give at least three (3) improvised
music instruments that can produce sounds similar to the instrument of Mindanao
and identify what classification of instrument it belongs.

Activity 2

Direction: Find any material that you can see in your home and accompany the
song El Galina Capituda. (5 mins.). but before that, everybody will sing the song.

Since all of us are Christians, This El Galina Capituda song is a Non – Islamic song. So we
can sing and perform this one.

GENERALIZATION:

Mindanao ethnic group’s musical practices reflect fusion of traditional traits.


Despite the Islamic practices dominance in popular social life, interpretations of local
religions have allowed pre – Islamic artistic practices to flourish. This kind of artistic
freedom proves the local society’s sense of independence from anyone prominent
political or religious ideology. The difference ethno – linguistic groups in Mindanao
have similar gongs and bamboo types of instruments used in his/her celebrations
and rituals, but they also have varied functions and different ways of playing these
instruments.

kultura ka tradisyon)

VI. ASSIGNMENT:

Learn the song Tu Man and look for a material/ materials that can be used to
make an improvised instrument accompanying the song. You can either choose to
perform it in duo or group together with a family member/s. Please video yourself
and your group performance and send it on our gc.
