Nature of the Business

JASK Board Game Cafe’s main goal in business is to provide customers a place to have
fun and relax with friends and family while being served delicious drinks and snacks. Tabletop
games like chess, Monopoly, Uno, and many others have been staples in households since the
early 1900s because they provided not only entertainment but also a good bonding experience
among family members. In recent times, the rise of technology and social media has made it rare
for people to sit down and play games face-to-face and JASK wants to bring that era back.

Statement of Financing Needed

JASK predicts an average monthly cost of PHP 15,000 to run due to the cost of
ingredients, maintenance and wages of the employees. As for the start-up cost, the combination
of kitchen and coffee-making equipment will cost around PHP 25,000 - PHP 30,000, and since
the furniture to be used will be custom-made wooden bunk bed tables to maximize the space of
the cafe, it will cost around PHP 35,000. That means the total start-up cost of JASK will be
upwards of PHP 60,000 with an additional monthly PHP 15,000 cost to run.

Executive Summary

In the Philippines, cafe businesses are considered as one of the most successful
businesses in the field. People, some may be students, are dreaming of starting a cafe business.
Some may think “why is coffee popular?” or “why are cafes becoming one of the sought-after
businesses not only in the Philippines, but also in the whole world?”
We can’t deny that coffee became almost everyone’s partner from morning until night.
Sometimes, people may crave for coffee, cold or hot, whatever the season is. Coffee and other
flavor-related products are now loved by many.
JASK Board Game Cafe is a partnership business among group of friends. It is a perfect
place for people who are interested in board games. Here in JASK Cafe, you will eat, drink, and
learn. One of this cafe’s aims is to bring back the old us. It is a place where we’ll only enjoy our
drinks with friends or family while playing traditional board games, no gadgets, just a board and
friends.
In a business, competitions will never be avoided. It will always depend on the cafe’s
location. If you chose a smaller competition, it only means that there is also a smaller profit. Of
course, entrepreneurs always pick an eye-catching location that can help their business become
big. Entrepreneurs should always consider different conditions within the business area.
Considering those, an entrepreneur will have a knowledge regarding the socio-cultural and
economic state, politico-legal conditions, latest supply and demand, possible weaknesses and
strengths of the business, and even the technological conditions.
Due to the outbreak of Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19), technology became the
main medium on how can we be in touch with our friends and family. Due to this, people can’t
also eat or have fun outside because of the government’s precautionary measures and limitations.
Some of the restaurants and cafes are limiting their customers. Now, social media platforms blew
up due to the demand and rapid cravings of people. JASK Cafe is also included. People can

4
contact the cafe through their official social media platforms and even in Grab Food and Food
Panda.
In terms of financial needs, the partnership among friends will consider equality in profit-
making and even in all expenses. The equipments for different themed drinks and desserts
including the board games that will be included will all be ready way before the launch of JASK
Cafe. Because of its extraordinary theme, the entrepreneurs are more than willing, excited, and
ready to risk it all for a new way of relaxation.
In this business plan, the entrepreneurs wanted to show the greatness of JASK Cafe. A
characteristic of a cafe that people won’t be able to see in other cafes will be shown and present.
The greatness and uniqueness of a quality cafe will only be seen in JASK Cafe. Just like other
businesses, JASK Cafe offers its customers a great customer service and satisfaction that they
can enjoy while staying. We can assure you that this cafe will only think about its customer’s
happiness, contentment, and pleasure.

Environmental and Industry Analysis

General Environment

Socio-cultural Conditions
Opening businesses under the food category is said to be one of the most profitable ideas,
especially when your products correspond to the trends. Cafe is an example of rapidly-growing
food businesses. Not only it is popular to teenagers who love to chill in peaceful places, but also
to adults who start their day by drinking coffee to actively finish their work.
Compared to other beverages, coffee is sold at an affordable price. But it is not the only reason it
is preferred by many. Coffee can be served and consumed at any time, may it be a rainy season
or dry season. It is because coffee evolved as time goes by. Opposite from how it is originally
served, coffees can now be consumed cold. A lot of coffee-flavored products are also
continuously getting discovered, such as cakes and other pastries that are also sold in cafes.
Coffees’ demand never reached rock bottom, instead, it exceeds the production each year.
Entrepreneurs who chose to open cafés are less likely to fail in business.
In terms of health benefits, coffee can offer you a variety of advantages not only
physically, but also mentally. Coffee reduces the risk of death, cancer, and type 2 diabetes. It can
also help you burn fats and lose weight. More importantly, coffee can brighten up your mood to
help fight depression and other mental illnesses.
As for our service, JASK Café ensures you that visiting our café won’t cause you any
harm as we strictly follow the rules and protocols implemented by the government. To prove our
sincere devotion to serving our customers well, the whole management of JASK Café did not
think twice about getting fully vaccinated to provide you first-hand protection.

Technological Conditions

6
Due to the threat of Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19), personally visiting cafes
may not still be possible for now, especially to underage individuals. To cope with the new
normal, JASK Café has decided to also take orders via online platforms. Our customers can
contact us through Facebook messenger and other collaborative delivery apps, such as Grab and
Foodpanda. Rest assured that we will still provide you with a quality service even online.

 According to Econometric Models, Philippines’ Gross Domestic Product (GDP) is
projected to trend around 379.00 USD Billion in 2022.
 According to the supplement to the Asian Development Outlook (ADO) 2021, the
Philippine economy will grow 5.1% in 2021 and 6.0% in 2022, up from the bank’s
September forecast of 4.5% in 2021 and 5.5% in 2022.
 With inflation projected to ease close to the midpoint of the target range (2%-4%) for
2022 and 2023, Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) is sticking to its stance of keeping
interest rates low.
 According to Econometric Models, in the long term, Philippines Interest Rate is projected
to trend around 2.50% in 2022.
 The USDPHP increased 0.1500 or 0.29% to 51.3000 on January 27, 2022 from 51.1500
in the previous trading session. According to Trading Economics global macro models

this quarter.

Politico-legal Conditions
Aside from the Food Safety Act 2013 (Republic Act No. 10611) that is still being strictly
followed until now, to strengthen the food regulatory system and protect consumers’ health, laws
7
and regulations of opening a café and managing it are still the same. It includes getting a variety
of permits, such as business licenses, food licenses, food handler's permits, and more.

Specific Environment

Supply and Demand

According to Statista Market Forecast, an individual can consume 42.6 liters of coffee
annually (12.6 liters of roast coffee and 30 liters of instant coffee), making it one of the most
consumed beverages worldwide. However, due to the global pandemic, Mordor Intelligence’s
predicted compound annual growth rate of coffee (CAGR) at 4.22%for 2020-2025 has been
disrupted. The International Coffee Organisation’s (ICO) Coffee Market Report of September
2020 showed that global production was down 2.2% compared to 2019, with Arabica, in
particular dropping 5%. This is coupled with an expected decrease in consumer demand of 0.5%,
which has led to below-average prices.
In regard to the improvement of Philippines’ situation during the pandemic, the market
for the coffee segment is expected to show a volume growth of 5.5% in 2023. By 2025, 69% of
spending and 12% of volume consumption in the Coffee segment will be attributable to out-of-
home consumption (e.g., in bars and restaurants).

Competition
Dunkin Donuts
 It is an American multinational coffee and doughnut company founded by William
Rosenberg in 1950.

 Products
o Espressos & Coffee

o Teas
o Frozen drinks
o Bagels & Muffins
o Sandwiches
o Snacks & Wraps
o Donuts
 Services
o Website lists over 50 possible flavors
o Have seasonal specials
 Major Customers
o Students
o Workers
o Kids
o Families
 Strengths (SWOT Analysis)
o Positioning. In almost all countries, Dunkin is associated with breakfast.
This is due to its perfect positioning strategy that reflects the to-go
breakfast product range. The strategy also helped the company to stand out
from its competitors.
o Global coverage. Dunkin does not only sell its products in more than 60
countries but also has an excellent performance when it comes to its
expansion into new markets. This resulted in a diversified stream of
revenues and efficient hedging against economic cycle risks.
o Franchise strategy. Dunkin does not only sell its products in more than 60
countries but also has an excellent performance when it comes to its

9
expansion into new markets. This resulted in a diversified stream of
revenues and efficient hedging against economic cycle risks.
o Austerity measures. The company implemented other expense-cutting
measures that resulted in $45 million savings, suspended its 401(k)
investments, and even stopped paying dividends, which resulted in another
$33 million saved in the second quarter of 2020 (Hunt, 2020).
o Giving back to the community. Dunkin remains one of the most socially
involved companies. Recently, they announced that they will hire 25,000
new employees in order to help the community. This is one of their
measures aimed to “keep America running”, according to Financialbuzz
(2020). Community help is always appreciated by customers.
o Supply chain management. Dunkin does not only have an effective supply
chain management that ensures timely delivery of fresh coffee and baked
goods but also joined the Sustainable Coffee Challenge in collaboration
with governments, companies, research companies, and NGOs, among
others. They aim to turn the coffee sector into a fully sustainable one.
o Sustainable practices. Nowadays, consumers favor companies that adopt
environmentally-friendly policies. Dunkin aims to reduce its carbon
footprint by changing all the polystyrene cups to paper ones that use
certified paperboard, as described by Holbrook (2020).
 Weaknesses (SWOT Analysis)
o Lacking revenue diversification. Nearly half of the revenues came from
the United States segment in 2019. This means that the company is
exposed to severe impacts in case of economic hardship in the US
economy (Team, 2019).

10
o The targeting strategy could be improved. Dunkin currently struggles to
efficiently target the key consumers in different countries, particularly
India and other emerging economies. This is associated with their inability
to understand foreign cultures, leading to poor decisions (Sigalos, 2018).
o Low product variety. As briefly mentioned above, Dunkin mainly focuses
on coffee and baked goods. This limits their presence to a very small
portion of the food sector, thus limiting the number of possible customers.
o Slow expansion. Compared to its main competitors, Burger King and
McDonald’s, Dunkin has a very limited expansion strategy. This is a
weakness because the company will tap into new markets only after its
competitors established themselves (Goldman, 2017).
o Poor financial performance. Expansion abilities are severely strained by
low finances. Dunkin requires a larger pool of funding in order to aim for
more extensive expansion plans and, thus, compete for market share. This
is even more relevant in 2020, considering that the global economy is
subject to a downturn.
