Activity #1.

Based on the lessons on the nature and purposes of assessment, select five core principles in
assessing learning and explain them in relation to your experience with a previous or current
teacher in one of your courses/subjects.
Example:

PRINCIPLE ILLUSTRATION OF PRACTICE

In our practicum course, we were asked to
prepare a lesson plan then execute the plan in
front of the students with my critic teacher
around to evaluate my performance. The

the classroom.

PRINCIPLE ILLUSTRATION OF PRACTICE

Assessment should have a clear purpose. When I was in JHS our P.E teacher provide a
assessment that’s serves as our exam. The
teacher was too busy that he could not give
any more details or rubric about that certain
activity. He just gave us the title itself and
left us with our curiosity about the activity.
Then we present of presentation and got a
poor score because we don’t meet his
expectation about the activity.
Assessment is learner-centered. I have a previous English Teacher that would
come up to the classroom and ask questions.
We had a few sessions of teaching and
practicing on our own, but then she would
come up to the desk and start asking us
questions about it. She phrased them in a way
that we weren't able to answer, because she
didn't teach it well enough for us. If we got an
answer wrong, she would make sure everyone
was correct before moving on. But if we
answered correctly, she would move onto
another question without checking with our
colleagues or giving us any further instruction
on how to get it right next time.
Assessment should be as authentic as When I was grade 12, during our work
possible. immersion in PRC our instructor there
provide us a scenario or an incidents that we
need to perform a solution like there is a
person who broke his arm or a person who is
drowning and I believe that this activities and
tasks reflect the real-world applications of the
material being learned. We are able to show
how well we have applied what we have
learned in the classroom while reinforcing
course content.
Assessment requires the use of appropriate Way back when I was SHS student, our
measures. science teacher gave us a performance task.
She make us choose want we want to do
about that task like we can draw, dance, act or
anything that we are more comfortable with.
She also gave us the rubric that suits all
learners with diverse need. And after that she
assess us based on the rubric she gave and
we’re happy with our scores.
Assessment is both process- and product- I remember when I was in high school back in
oriented. the day, during lecture my teacher always ask
questions every time he’s done explaining the
sub topic of our topic. This required us to
always listen when he is explaining. After
class if we have time left, he will call 5
student to discuss all the learning that they
absorb during his class or he will just gave us
assignments.
