“TALES OF THE NIGHT”

I choose to create an expressionistic Van Gogh-inspired artwork with a little touch of my

tale of love to express my love for art and life while relating it with my own experience.
Expressionism is the most visible movement in the artwork. Just like what Van Gogh did, I
employed swirling, swaying, and exaggeratedly executed brushstrokes in the depiction of the
subjects. Thinking about how someone did that, he painted this extraordinary night sky unlike any
other in the world, a kaleidoscope. You have to be someone extraordinary to see the world through
extraordinary eyes. That is my inspiration for why I came up with this piece.
The painting makes me dream. There’s a quote from Van Gogh that I love, “For my part,
I know nothing with any certainty, but the sight of the stars makes me dream.” and that’s what he
left us, that’s his legacy, he makes us dream every time we look at Starry Night.

I will name it “Tales of the Night” for as I mentioned earlier, I will be relating the artwork
with my own experience. It was one cloudy night when my suitor asked me out on a date, just a
typical park date. Suddenly, the rain started to pour, we waited for it to stop. When the rain stopped,
the sky seems clear and the stars are already visible. It is when he asked me to be his girlfriend, of
course, I answered “YES” with so many sparkles in my eyes hoping and dreaming that this new
beginning would last a lifetime, and that became the tale of the night. I am sure that each and
everyone has their own wonderful tale of their night.

When I think about the starry night, I think about the beauty in life, hopes, and dreams.
Van Gogh was struggling with a lot of darkness in his life but you see the yellow stars, the lights
on inside the houses in the little village, beautiful, bright, right there screaming out of the painting,
that’s hope to me, hope that doesn’t matter how dark, grey, black and blue life seems sometimes
there’s always yellow in your painting, there always will be light at the end. Life itself is a starry
night.
