Santander Scholarships Tech | Data Analytics and Data Science

BANCO SANTANDER TOTTA, S.A. hereinafter called SANTANDER, is a financial institution that,
within the framework of its sustainability and social responsibility policy, has focused its activity
on supporting Higher Education, developed through the organic unit Santander Universities,
whose strategic axes focus on access to Education through the promotion of equal opportunities
in the access and frequency of university education, the employability of students and
professionals, with a view to their development and professional adequacy and also to
entrepreneurship of the entire academic community.
Banco SANTANDER's international and national experience has shown that the provision of
scholarships has been a fundamental element in addressing the public's demand for training.
This finding results in numerous scholarship programs, of various formats, duration and themes,
distributed by all mentioned strategic axes.
The complementary training applied to the acquisition of skills directly linked to professional
development is one of the themes that Banco Santander has explored in association with the
best schools in the world in different scientific areas. The strategy is intended to provide
customized advanced training services, continuing the offer of scholarships to the general public
that allow participants to improve their professional training, reorient their career or just to
allow them to continue their path of continuous learning.

In this context, the Santander Scholarships Tech | Data Analytics and Data Science are created,
as an online Talent Discovery and Upskilling program carried out by Analytics Academy of Data
Corner, hereinafter referred to as Data Corner, in collaboration with Polytechnique Institute of
Setubal (IPS).

I. Program Objectives

The Santander Scholarships Tech | Data Analytics and Data Science programme (“the
Programme”) will assist participants to find their talents in Data Analytics and get upskilled through
this online project-based training program.
This scholarship consists of:
• Attending in the online analytics skill assessment in Data Corner ATU (Analytics Talent
Upskilling) online platform;
• Receiving the assessment results and suggested upskilling plan in Data Corner ATU
online platform ;
• Attending in online Data Analysis or Data Science courses (for the selected participants
with the highest assessment score;
• Mentorship sessions to practically accomplish a Data Analysis / Data Science project
with real datasets ;
• Presenting the final projects and receiving the certificates from Analytics Academy of
Data Corner and Polytechnique Institute of Setubal (IPS).

II. Recipients

This Programme will be open to all participants, who are:

• Adults (+18);
• and can communicate in English.

III. Characteristics of the Programme

According to a recent report by European Commission, Europe will face a shortage of 925,000
data professionals by 2025.
This project is a Data Analytics Talent Discovery and Upskilling program to mitigate the reported
shortage of data professionals in the target countries.

The Programme offers:

1. The Big Data Talent Discovery assessment that will run online in ATU platform of Data
Corner for 500 selected participants

2. The 21-hours of synchronous training sessions that will run online as a project-based
upskilling course in Data Analysis or Data Science for the 50 short listed participants
according to the following schedule:

All sessions will be conducted onlineand in English.

Subjects to be Taught

After evaluating the ATU assessment results, the top 50 candidates with highest assessment
scores will be selected to attend in one of the following analytics courses:

1. Data Analysis Course

This course is designed for the trainees with some data analysis background to get upskilled
towards learning how to do the exploratory analysis and gain insights from the data by
producing the data analytics charts and generating actionable insights.
2. Data Science Course
This course is designed for the trainees with some programming background interested to
learn machine learning techniques and predictive analytics. As a programming language, we
will use R or Python to develop the machine learning algorithms.

Both courses will be conducted online in synchronous mode with the duration of 21 hours (7
sessions of 3 hours each).

Each course consists of both theoretical topics and practical hands-on and assignments. At the
end of each course, the trainees will apply what they learned on a final project with real datasets
and present their project results in the demo day that will be scheduled at the end of program.

Selection criteria:

The selection of the Program will take place in two phases:

Phase 1
The Data Corner and Polytechnique Institute of Setubal (IPS) will select 500 candidates among the
participants registered at the Santander Grants platform and introduce them to Data Corner for
attending in ATU (Analytics Talent Upskilling) online assessment.
In this phase, and in order to be eligible for the next phase of the registration process, candidates
must comply with the following:
• Must be Adult (+18)
• Can communicate in English
• To be registered user in Santander Grants Platform (www.bolsas-santander.com/pt )and
sign into Santander Scholarships Tech | Data Analytics and Data Science.

Phase 2.
Those selected candidates who pass the evaluation of Phase 1 (maximum of 500 pax), will be
notified by email with the related instructions about how to attend the ATU (Analytics Talent
Upskilling) online assessment in Phase 2 of the program.

ATU is an online multiple-choice assessment designed to find the analytics talents of the
selected participants in the following nine analytics dimensions:

1. Overall Knowledge in Analytics An example of ATU skill radar chart

2. R Programming

3. Python Programming

4. Data Visualization

5. SQL & DB

6. General Programming

7. Machine Learning

8. Statistics

9. Big Data

From the above list, the candidates will have this option to select just the categories that they have
some background and would like to self-assess their own skills.

At the end of this phase, the top 50 candidates will be selected to attend in the scheduled upskilling
programs in Data Analytics or Data Science.

V. Actors

Key actors of the program are:

- Applicants who will register and apply for scholarship through the www.bolsas-santander.com/pt

- Data Corner and Polytechnique Institute of Setubal (IPS), will collect the registrations through
www.bolsas-santander.com/pt , and select the 500 applicants.

- Data Corner, will execute this program in both running the online Analytics Skill Assessment through
the ATU portal https://data-corner.com/ and conducting the designated online trainings and project-
based hands-on sessions and assignments.

- Polytechnique Institute of Setubal (IPS), will collaborate in communicating and announcing this
program among graduates and students of IPS, as well as industries in Setubal area of Portugal.

- Santander is full financing the programme and order to delivery it free for students.

I. Scope of funding for grants

The costs of registration and attendance in the Santander Scholarships Tech | Data Analytics and Data
Science program is fully financed by Santander, for the 500 (five hundred) selected candidates in phase
1 to attend the online ATU assessment at Data Corner portal, as well as the costs of registration and
attendance of the 50 (Fifty) selected for the 2nd phase to attend the online training programs. If it is
possible to organize face-to-face meetings, the scholarship does not finance travel, stays and other
travel costs.

II. Data protection

Regulation of personal data applicable to the Programme is set in the Privacy Policy of Santander
Grants available at https://www.bolsas-santander.com/pt_pt/legal/privacy.html
The selected applicants who will attend in ATU (Analytics talent Upskilling) assessments and training
will follow the Privacy Policy of Data Corner available at https://data-corner.com/privacy.

III. Modification of Terms and Conditions of the Programme

The fact of participate this Call for the Programme implies acceptance by the candidates of its Terms
and Conditions, and its resolution, which will be final, as well as the waiver of any type of claim on any
aspect stipulated in them, such as allocation, selection, and admission criteria.

Data Corner and Santander reserve the right to modify or amend any of the Terms and Conditions of
the Call of the Programme, partially or totally at any time, even suspend, postpone, or cancel the Call
if there’s a sufficient, justified, and objective reason with the purpose of preserving the social impact
that Data Corner and Santander pursue with the present Call. In any case, Data Corner and Santander
shall inform the Candidates about the modifications, corrections or amendments made through
the website www.bolsas-santander.com/pt .
