ACTIVITY NO. 1.

QUARTER 1 WEEK 6-7
(ANSWERS)

THE RESEARCH PROCESS

Briefly define the following terms as applied to research.

1. PROCESS
-Process aims to develop your research by giving up the proper steps and processes or procedures to
help you obtain and to develop a good research statement. It also helps you to create or to know the
proper way on conducting research (mostly scientific type or research) by following the step by step
processes.

2. PROBLEM
-This is the purpose or the main reason of the study. This is where your study leads to because the
purpose of it is to answer your question/problem. This is where your questions are conducted or this is
where you got your idea on formulating your questions. It’s the main topic of your research that you
need to formulate or conduct.

3. QUESTIONS
- Questions are produced by the problem. Once you got or you research a specific topic/problem, that’s
when you got to make questions. As mentioned on the earlier lessons, once you’ve created a one
problem, it goes like a cycle and creates more problems for you to have or to obtain knowledge and to
answer your topic/research.

4. FEASIBILITY
- Can be studied without limitations. Once you create a research, it should be limitless regarding on
time, energy, or money. You don’t have to make your research hard by picking topic that needs or
requires time, energy, and money. You’re just going to stress yourself on making that kind of
observation. Pick those who doesn’t need or require too much effort. As long as you have the right
knowledge and follow the procedures right, that’s enough.

5. CLARITY
-Means that as your given topic/problem they would agree on the keywords you are using to help
identify your experimentation/research. Your answers should have keywords for them to identify the
purpose of your topic. It is also connected based on the problems you made to add up your conclusions
and the processes you use to construct properly your research.

6. SIGNIFICANCE
-Significance states that your problem/topic has a point and it is worth conducting because it will add up
your knowledge and learn important things related to the topic you will create. Your topic should help
you gain more knowledge and is important as to people should know it. Avoid making or conducting a
topic for entertainment purposes only.

7. ETHICAL
- Ethical does not involve any harm to all living things and the environment. Your topic should just focus
on learning new things and helps add your knowledge without the thought of touching or involving
living things that may result on harming them for the sake of your experimentation.
8. FORMULATION
- There are many things to consider on formulating the hypothesis. Formulation states that you need to
formulate properly your hypothesis by considering the factors that are needed. That is the reason why
you need to pick a great topic or problem to discuss in your hypothesis so that you don’t struggle on
making or conducting the formulation to know the answer of your problem properly and accurately.

9. EMPIRICAL
- This stage is one of the most important one as it fixes or collect your data and gather all the
information you have collected. Let’s say that this is the middle stage that is one of the most considered
factor or topic to be used when creating a hypothesis. It is a big help to you when you create your final
conclusion or final answer to your hypothesis.

10. METHOD
- This is the important one; the following of methods. Methods help you understand your hypothesis
well by following it and it makes it easier to answer in fact you know all of the methods because it
guided you on making your experiment. It doesn’t only apply on the conduction of the problems but it
also applies on creating a neat conclusions and presentations of your hypothesis/work.

QUARTER 1 WEEK 6-7
(ANSWERS)

HYPOTHESIS WRITING
For each experiment, write down the independent variable (IV), dependent variable (DV), and
Null and Alternative hypotheses.

1. Katiana wanted to figure out what type of liquid worked best for growing beans. She
watered one with Coca-Cola, one with lemonade, and one with just water. After one week, she
measured how high they had grown.
a. Independent Variable (IV): coca cola, lemonade, water.
b. Dependent Variable (DV): the height/growth of the beans.
c. Ho: there is a same relationship between the liquids that is used to make the plants grow.
d. Ha: there are differences/the growth differs on what type of liquid you are going to use in
your experiment.

2. Trevor wanted to find out what fertilizer worked best for growing marigolds. He put Miracle
Grow on one, Scott’s fertilizer on one, and no fertilizer on another.
a. Independent Variable (IV): Miracle grow, Scott’s fertilizer, and no fertilizer.
b. Dependent Variable (DV): works best for growing marigolds.
c. Ho: There’s no effect on putting different fertilizers on the plant.
d. Ha: There is an effect on putting different fertilizers on the plant.

3. Taylor wanted to see if eating apples would help her do better on her classwork. The first day, she
didn’t eat any apples. On day 2, she ate one apple; on day 3, she ate 2 apples; and on day 4, she ate 3
apples. Each day, she recorded the grades she got on her science work.
a. Independent Variable (IV): eating apples
b. Dependent Variable (DV): helps her do well on her class works.
c. Ho: eating apples does not help her do better on answering her school works.
d. Ha: eating apples does affect her performance in school and helps her do better in her school
works.

4. CJ wanted to see if listening to music would make the basketball players make more baskets. On day
one, he didn’t play any music and counted how many baskets they could make in 10 minutes. On day 2,
he played rap music and counted the baskets, and on day 3, he played classical music and counted the
baskets.
a. Independent Variable (IV): playing music
b. Dependent Variable (DV): would make the basketball players make more shots
c. Ho: playing music doesn’t affect the performance of the basketball players on doing more
shots.
d. Ha: playing music affects the performance on the basketball players on the amount of shots
they’ll make.
5. Michael wanted to see what kitchen cleaner worked best for cleaning her counters. He used
Lysol, Clorox, Pinesol, and just water. For each cleaner, he put 5 milliliters of grape juice on the
counter, sprayed the cleaner, and wiped it with one paper towel.
a. Independent Variable (IV): Lysol, Clorox, Pinesol, and water
b. Dependent Variable (DV): works best for cleaning her counters
c. Ho: using different cleaners won’t affect or change the cleanliness of her counters.
d. Ha: cleanliness of her counters varies on what kitchen cleaner she’ll us to make it clean.

6. Alex wanted to find out what toothpaste made teeth the cleanest. Every day she brushed
her teeth with a different product and then took a plaque test to see how much plaque was left.
She used Crest, Colgate, Close-up, and water.
