Branches of Forensic Science

Trace Evidence Analysis

Trace evidence analysis; this is any substance that comes in contact the perpetrator during an act

of crime. Some trace evidence includes fibers, hair, rope, building materials. Analysis of trace

evidence allows for the courts to have more evidence on a particular case.

Forensic Psychology

This involves introducing of psychology to the field of crime. This involves looking at criminal’s

character traits and behaviors. Forensic psychology plays a big role when it comes to crime

victims counselling, children matters and post traumatic stress among victims and criminals.

Forensic Toxicology

This involves the study of toxic substances in the human body. It involves analytical, clinical

chemistry and pharmacology to aid in the medical and legal matters.

Forensic Pathology

This is a form of pathology that involves examination of corpses so as to determine the cause of

death. It allows for easier work in the criminal justice procedure.

Forensic Odontology

This involves the proper, handling and examination of a dental formulae of a living thing it can

be either human or animal.

Forensic Geology

This allows for the study of earth materials and particles. It involves the study of materials found

in earth such as soil, petrol, minerals, rock and oil.

Forensic Entomology

When a body decomposes, insects are usually found on the body, different types of insects also

mean a different stage of decomposition. Forensic entomology deals with the biology of studying

insects.

Forensic Engineering

It is the study and investigation of how different products and materials are manufactured so as

to be able to determine between accidents and property damage.

Forensic DNA Analysis

Just like fingerprints, DNA is also another way of profiling individuals personally. Analysis of

DNA allows for one to be able to differentiate one individual from another in a scientific way.
