01208241-60 – Thermodynamics I Homework Assignment #8 Page 1 of 1

HW #8 Name................................................................................Std ID#…..……………………..Sec...……
Due: Wednesday, March 16, 2022
ข้อ 1) 8.150 (แบบฝึกหัดท้ายบท)
ข้อ 2) 8.132 (6th-edition) – also see PowerPoint p.34
A cylinder/piston contains 3 kg of water at 500 kPa, 600°C. The piston has a cross-sectional area of 0.1
m2 and is restrained by a linear spring with spring constant 10 kN/m. The setup is allowed to cool down
to room temperature due to heat transfer to the room at 20°C. Calculate the total (water and
surroundings) change in entropy for the process.
ข้อ 3) 8.138 (6th-edition), using R-32 instead of R-410A – also see PowerPoint p.34
A vertical cylinder/piston contains R-32 at -30°C, 70% quality, and the volume is
50 L, shown in Fig. P8.138. This cylinder is brought into a 20°C room, and an
electric current of 10 A is passed through a resistor inside the cylinder. The
voltage drop across the resistor is 12 V. It is claimed that after 30 min the
temperature inside the cylinder is 40°C. Is this possible?

ข้อ 4)
An insulated rigid container contains 2 kg of wet vapor. Initially, the
pressure inside the container is 100 kPa. Then, the electrical heater
is turned on until all water is completely vaporized. Determine the Sat. vap.

net entropy change during this process and the electrical work, if the
+
initial state is Sat. liq.

(a) 75 % by mass is saturated vapor.
(b) 75 % by volume is saturated vapor.
