PROCEDURE
Introduction Time
Typing:
Students will practice typing for about 5 minutes as soon as
they get into class. They will do a one-minute typing test and
after they finish I will come around and record their answers.
After they finish typing I will explain that today we are not

the next day. I will explain that I expect everyone to be
respectful of the activities we engage in as this is an important
day in Canadian history.

Scaffold the steps to Word Cloud:

Students will be given a link to a word cloud on mentimeter
where I have the question: what words come to your mind 5
when you hear about Orange Shirt Day? Students are allowed minutes
to respond up to 3 times if they have numerous answers for
the question. I will read aloud their answers to help facilitate a
discussion with the students.

Reading:
I will read a story on the significance of orange shirt day. After
I read the story, we will discuss orange shirts and then 22
students will create their own orange shirts using an online minutes
tool.

I will play this video as students finish up creating their orange
minutes
shirts. I will then ask them to answer one last question on the
menitmeter: how can you engage in reconciliation?

Closure Time
Just one Students will send me a copy of their orange shirt that they
Solidify have created. After they send me a copy, they will log off of

their computers and tuck in their chairs. I will thank them for 4
their participation and thoughtful responses with regards to minutes
