RESEARCH PROPOSAL

(Introduction & Background of the Study and the Statement of the Problem)

Direction: Now that you are done choosing your research topic, answer the following

guidelines and needed information in writing your Introduction and Background of

your Study and the Statement of the Problem.

Proposed Study Title: Acuhesive: The Feasibility of Banana Sap (Musa acuminata)

as Natural Glue

What is the rationale of your chosen problem?

Bananas are widely distributed throughout many tropical countries, including

Philippines both cultivated and wild. After harvest, almost 60% of banana biomass is

left as waste. These wastes contain a high content of paramount industrial importance.

This fruit contains sap, which is referred to as banana pseudo-stem sap (BPS). The

pseudo-stem is a part of the banana plant that resembles a trunk. The researcher are

encouraged to use this as an alternative in the production of glue because the sap is

extremely sticky and contains a starch that can be used as an effective adhesive.

Banana stems are a type of waste that, when used properly, can be very beneficial to

everyone. Every student requires the use of adhesive glues, but it is becoming

increasingly expensive for students as time passes. These factors influenced the study

titled "The Feasibility of Banana Sap (Musa acuminata) as Natural Glue."

Describe the setting where your study is to be conducted?

The study is to be conducted in a safe and clean environment.

What are the terms, variables, or concepts that need to be defined, clarified, or

described to you and to your reader?

Control: Amount of water

Dependent variable: Amount of starch

Independent variable: Banana sap

Look for related literature that defines the main concepts of your study. Provide

at least three (3) references per concept. Provide a brief description for each.

Reference 1: (Aguilos et al. (2014). Banana (Musa acuminata) Sap based

against other Organic Adhesive, https://prezi.com/cvvawwgztdx7/banana-

musa-acuminata/).

Description: More effective than egg white glue and rice paste is the use of

banana sap and other organic products as efficient adhesive materials. The

denser the density of the sap, the more effective the adhesives are. The

research established these changes by comparing them with organic glues

Description:

Banana fiber is made from waste banana trees and is an incredibly strong fiber

that is entirely natural. An Australian technology that imbalances this also

means that no additives, bleaches or glues are used in the finished product. As

glue, the substance uses banana sap.

and Jackfruit (Artocarpos heterophyllus),

Description: From the exocarps of Jackfruit and bananas, they created an

organic paste. In particular, it is important to comprehend the kinds of surfaces

that the product may bind, how quickly and strongly it adheres, and whether

the strength of the bond is affected by the drying time. The study makes use of

the exocarps of the aforementioned fruits to reduce waste environment. In

order to transform the material into a paste-like structure, the exocarps were

collected, combined, heated, blended, and finally pounded. The paste's

effectiveness was evaluated by spreading it over a variety of papers, including

bond paper, manila paper, art paper, glossy paper, and oslo paper. The drying

time was then timed. The bond strength of the glued papers was also increased

by using winds of different speeds. On both experiments, three trials were

performed. It takes eight to twelve minutes for the product to dry and its bond

strength depends on the period of drying. The results showed a good result.

Determine the significance of your chosen problem. Research contextual

evidence of its “gravity.” Provide the details (and references) below.

With this study we can reduce the waste pollution. And put the leftover banana

sap’s into good use.

What is the general objective or overall purpose of the study?

The banana pseudo-stem sap (BPS) will give good benefits especially for

those students who struggling to find or buy a glue. This study will help the
respondents to easily make organic glue. So, they can provide their own glue

without buying it.

After the problem has been solved or the research was conducted, who will be

the main beneficiaries of the research? What direct benefits will they receive

from it?

The main beneficiaries of the study is everyone in the community especially

the students. The leftover banana waste will be put to use and turn into a

natural glue.

Purpose Statement:

The investigator seeks to alleviate the continuous manufacturing of

commercial glue and lean into a more eco-friendly glue called Acuhesive using

banana sap.

Central question:

What is the feasibility of banana saps as natural glue?

Sub-question:

Are banana saps a good alternative for commercial glue?

Other questions:

What is the biodegradability of Acuhesive?
