EVALUATION

Evaluation
- Systematic collection and analysis of the Occupational Goals
client’s information about occupational
performance – such as strengths & problems
Organize objective data
- OT practitioners use the evaluation results
Analysis of Occupational
and conclusions to plan and implement performace
interventions Synthesize objective
data
- It will help us interpret and understand the
person, system or situation for intervention
- The primary question or therapy decision Create goals
the occupational therapist has to make Targeted Outcomes
during evaluation is, “Who is my client and Determine procedures
does my client need occupational therapy to measure progress
services?”

Intervention

- The implementation of actions to facilitate the client’s engagement in his or her occupation
- To determine the effectiveness of OT interventions, an evaluation or reevaluation will be conducted
- From the evaluation it provides a guide information for determining the best therapeutic ways for the planning
and implementation of intervention services
- The primary question or therapy decision the occupational therapy practitioner has to make during the
intervention is, “What occupational therapy interventions can best help my client?”

Intervention plan
Determine interventions
Select interventions
Intervention implementation
Carry out interventions
Monitor clien's response

Reevaluation

- Can be conducted formally and informally

- 2 types: Formal and Informal Reevaluation
- Formal: COMPARES the client’s occupational performance DURING evaluation with the AFTER receiving the
intervention phase. After that, the OT will either continue or discontinue the services.
- Informal: similar to formal it will still compare the client’s occupational performance but the OT makes decision
to continue/ discontinue select interventions based on the CLIENT’S RESPONSE TO THE INTERVENTION,
PROGRESS TOWARDS GOALS, & ATTAINMENT OF OUTCOMES
- The primary question, “How has occupational therapy affected my client’s occupational performance?”

Outcomes

- Fundamental in every phase of the OT process

- Specifically identifies results of planned therapy intervention
- Includes improved occupational performance, participation, increased abilities to adapt to occupational
challenges
- Additional outcomes: engaging in activities designed to prevent future limitation & promote health and wellness
- Anticipated outcome serves as goals to guide the therapy process
- Helps both the client and the therapist decide if the therapy was effective, completed, or needs to be modified
in some way
