In his classic work

True Devotion to the Mary, St. Louis de Montfort lists the

“ten principal virtues of the most Holy Virgin Mary.”
They are:
 Profound humility
 Lively faith
 Blind obedience
 Continual prayer
 Universal mortification
 Divine purity
 Ardent charity
 Heroic patience
 Angelic sweetness
 Divine wisdom
These virtues may seem overwhelming at first, but there are simple ways to
practice them in everyday life with the help of God’s grace.
The Wise Man

People have been coming to the wise man, complaining about the same problems every time.
One day he told them a joke and everyone roared in laughter.
After a couple of minutes, he told them the same joke and only a few of them smiled.
When he told the same joke for the third time no one laughed anymore.

“You can’t laugh at the

The wise man smiled and said:

same joke over and over. So why are

you always crying about the same
problem?”

Moral of the story:

Worrying won’t solve your problems, it’ll just waste your time and energy.

The Boy Who Cried, Wolf

September 19, 2022: “Monday Convocation Values Story”

Retrieved from https://feedingtrends.com/short-stories-with-moral

There was, once upon a time, a young child whose dad was a farmworker.
Every day, his dad tells him to look after their flock of sheep. The boy was
frustrated one day while watching over the farm animals for a long period.

Suddenly, he exclaimed excitedly, "Wolf! Wolf!". When villagers heard his cries,
they rushed to help him chase the wolf away and safely secure the sheep. But
that was all a lie by the boy. This made the villagers annoyed. They told him to
not cry wolf again.

The following day, The kid shouts out for help once more. The innocent locals
came to his aid again but were pranked once again. Later that day, a wolf
landed to terrorize the sheep.

The boy cried out loud. But, the locals didn't come to his aid this time as they
thought they were being pranked again. Among short stories with morals, this
is one of the most exceptional pieces of short fiction.

Moral of the story - foolish pranks are often disastrous. People never believe
liars.

The Dog and the Bone

Retrieved fromhttps://wealthygorilla.com/best-short-moral-stories/

Once there was a dog who wandered the streets night and day in search of
food. One day, he found a big juicy bone and he immediately grabbed it
between his mouth and took it home. On his way home, he crossed a river and
saw another dog who also had a bone in its mouth. He wanted that bone for
himself too. But as he opened his mouth, the bone he was biting fell into the
river and sank. That night, he went home hungry.
Moral of the story:
If we always envy what others have, we’ll end up losing what we already have,
just like the greedy dog.

Having a Best Friend
August 30, 2022: “Monday Convocation Values Story”

Retrieved from https://www.moralstories.org/having-a-best-friend/

A story tells that two friends were walking through the desert. During some point of the
journey, they had an argument, and one friend slapped the other one in the face.

The one who got slapped was hurt, but without saying anything, wrote in the sand
“Today my best friend slapped me in the face”.

They kept on walking until they found an oasis, where they decided to take a bath. The
one who had been slapped got stuck in the mire and started drowning, but the friend
saved him. After he recovered from the near drowning, he wrote on a stone “Today my
best friend saved my life”.

The friend who had slapped and saved his best friend asked him, “After I hurt you, you
wrote in the sand and now, you write on a stone, why?” The other friend replied “When
someone hurts us we should write it down in the sand where winds of forgiveness can
erase it away. But, when someone does something good for us, we must engrave it in
stone where no wind can ever erase it.”

Moral: Do not value the things you have in your life. But value who you have in
your life.

The Proud Rose

for-kids.html

Once upon a time, there was a rose that was very proud of her beautiful
look. The only disappointment was that the rose grew next to an ugly
cactus. Every day the rose would insult the cactus on his looks, but the cactus
stayed quiet. All the other plants and trees around the rose tried to stop it
from bulling the cactus.  But the rose was too swayed by its beauty to listen to
anyone. Spring passed; summer came. There was no rain, the garden dried up
and there was no water for the plants. The rose slowly began to lose its
beautiful color and started to wilt. Rose saw a sparrow dip its beak into the
cactus and drank water from it. The rose felt ashamed to ask help from the
cactus, but finally, it did ask. The kind cactus agreed happily . The sparrows
watered the rose. They both became friends and got through summer.

fatal its sting. - William Scott Downey

A Farmer walked through his field one cold winter morning. On the ground lay a Snake,
stiff and frozen with the cold. The Farmer knew how deadly the Snake could be, and yet
he picked it up and put it in his bosom to warm it back to life.

The Snake soon revived, and when it had enough strength, bit the man who had been so
kind to it. The bite was deadly and the Farmer felt that he must die. As he drew his last
breath, he said to those standing around, “Learn from my fate not to take pity on a
scoundrel”.

Once upon a time, there was a small town. There lived a man by himself who couldn’t
see. He was blind. Yet, he carried a lighted lamp with him whenever he went out at
night.

One night as he was coming home after having a dinner outside, he came across a group
of young travellers. They saw that he was blind, yet carrying a lighted lamp. They started
passing comments on him and made a fun of him. One of them asked him, “Hey Man!
You are blind and can’t see anything! Why do you carry the lamp then?!”

The blind man replied, “Yes, unfortunately, I am blind and I can’t see anything but a
lighted lamp which I am carrying is for the people like you who can see. You may not see
the blind man coming and end up pushing me. That is why I carry a lighted lamp”. The
group of travellers felt ashamed and apologized for their behaviour.

Wealth without Value

October 24, 2022: “Monday Convocation Values Story”

Retrieved from https://www.shortstories4kids.com/2021/09/the-proud-rose-short-story-

for-kids.html

A Miser had buried his gold in a secret place in his garden. Every day he went to the
spot, dug up the treasure and counted it piece by piece to make sure it was all there. He
made so many trips that a Thief, who had been observing him, guessed what it was the
Miser had hidden, and one night quietly dug up the treasure and made off with it.

When the Miser discovered his loss, he was overcome with grief and despair. He
groaned and cried and tore his hair. A passerby heard his cries and asked what had
happened.

“My gold! O my gold!” cried the Miser, wildly, “someone has robbed me!” “Your gold!
There in that hole? Why did you put it there? Why did you not keep it in the house where you
could easily get it when you had to buy things?”

“Buy!” screamed the Miser angrily. “Why, I never touched the gold. I couldn’t think of spending
any of it.”

The stranger picked up a large stone and threw it into the hole. “If that is the case,” he said,
“cover up that stone. It is worth just as much to you as the treasure you lost!”

Moral Of the Story:

Saving, Spending wisely and appropriately is a good sign if you do it for a good purpose.
Otherwise, a possession is worth no more than the use we make of it.

The Reflection of your actions

October 31, 2022: “Monday Convocation Values Story”

Retrieved from https://www.shortstories4kids.com/2021/09/the-proud-rose-short-story-

for-kids.html

A man and his son were going through the forest hills. Suddenly, the boy fell down on
the trail and screamed with a pain, “Aah!” Surprisingly, he heard the same voice from the
mountain, “Aah!” Curiously, the boy shouted, “Who is this?” But the voice replied the
same, “Who is this?” He got angry, and shouted again, “You are stupid!” And again the
voice replied the same, “You are stupid!”

Annoyed By this, the boy asked his father, “Father, What is going on? Who is this?” The
Father replied, “Son, Pay attention”. The father shouted, “You are very nice”. And the
voice responded the same, “You are very nice!” The father again shouted, “Thank you”.
And the voice again responded the same, “Thank you!” The son was very surprised but
he still could not understand what was happening.

The father explained, “Son, people call it resonance, but this is the truth of the life. The
life is a reflection of your actions. What you will give to others, you will receive the same
in return.”

Moral Of the Story:

What we give to others, life gives us the same in return. Your life is not an accident or a
coincidence, but it is the shadow of your actions.
