ISAIAH 28-32
28:1. In this first woe (hoy, an interjection suggestive of impending doom or grief; cf.
comments on Isa 5:8), Ephraim, a prominent tribe representative of the Northern Kingdom, is
likened to a drunkard. The area of the North was fertile at that time. Samaria, the capital city
built by Omri (1 Kings 16:24), overlooked a fruitful valley (cf. Isa 28:4). Because of
Samaria's beauty it was called a wreath (cf. v. 3). The possibility of material prosperity was
great. However, the Northern Kingdom was throwing away the blessings of God as a
drunkard throws away his money in the pursuit of wine. Apparently drunkenness was a
problem in both the Northern and Southern Kingdoms, so the figure of a drunkard is apt.

Reflections
Chapter 28- B.C. 725.)

 EPHRAIM-the northern kingdom also known as samaria

 Samria was in the good land(v.1,4 head valley) ngunit lahat ng ito ay mawawala, na
Panginoon. (v.1 the crown of pride) sila hindi nakikinig siya Diyos at nag paka saya sila
(v.11-15)
“the Northern Kingdom was throwing away the blessings of God as a drunkard throws away
his money in the pursuit of wine. Apparently drunkenness was a problem in both the
Northern and Southern Kingdoms, so the figure of a drunkard is apt.” (barnes)

Panginoon
 Ariel ( mostly referring to heart of altar where everything was burn Ez.43:15) na ang
judgement
 V.13-14 people of Jerusalem, professing to know God, were formally involved in acts
of worship but they did not worship God from their hearts. They were more concerned
with man-made legalistic rules than with God's Law, which promotes mercy, justice,
and equity. Because of that, God would judge them; their wisdom would vanish.

Chapter 30-720bc—
-time of the Assyrian king shalmeneser (2king 18:7-10) Hezekiah rebelled to Assyrian but hidi sila nanalo,

 The people seeking without the counsel of the Lord, without the Lord.,the people focus to
much and trust in human abilities than God’s ability to save
 Salvation is promised to the deaf who hear the words of the book, the blind who see out of
darkness, the humble will increase their joy;the poor will rejoice in the Holy one of Israel.
 Rebellious people (v.1) was the people who ask for help to other nations
Chapter 31-
 The people ask Help for the foreign country ,Egypt, and assryria
 Those who trust in the other country but don’t look to the holy one ay kawawa (v.1-3)
Chapter 32
 It t is refering to messiah (v.1)
 V5-6)- fool leaders, (ecclesiates 10:16,17)
mawawala (v.13,14)
 V.11-12) replacing sackcloth means mouning or pagluluksa (example 2king 19:1)
 V15-20) their only hopes is when the Holy Spirit will be poured in them,…..the role of
the Hosly spirit is to transform.
 In the early chapters of his book Isaiah focused on the corruption and unrighteousness
that marked the people's lifestyle. Now he portrayed the righteousness that will mark the
lifestyle of the redeemed. When the Spirit of God is poured out on humankind:
 Justice will dwell in the desert and righteousness live in the fertile field. The fruit of
righteousness will be peace; the effect of righteousness will be quietness and
confidence forever. (barne’s)
