Pharynx
Larynx

Lower respiratory tract contains:

Trachea
Primary Bronchi
Lungs

away carbon dioxide from the blood

Function of the nose:

Filtration
Humidification
Warming

There are layers of Pleura, that’s why our chest/ lung won’t collapse after exhaling

When we inhale, rib cage expands and diaphragm contracts (moves down); when we
exhale, rib cage relaxes and gets smaller, diaphragm relaxes and moves up.

Mucus helps take away pollutants like dust we inhaled. That’s why we practice
jalanati.
Muscles for inhalation:
Intercostal
Diaphragm
stermocieldmastoid
Scalene groups

Muscles for exhalation:

Internal intercostal
Abdominal

Breathing is voluntary but we can control it. We can change the lung volume by
practicing Pranayama, e.g kumbaka, rechecha
