II. OBJECTIVES:
At the end of the lesson, students should be able to:
● To discuss the facing challenges during adolescence may clarify and manage the demands of teen
years;
● To express his/her feelings on the expectations of the significant people around him/her (parents,
siblings, friends, teachers, community leaders); and
● To make affirmations that help one become more lovable and capable as an adolescent.

⮚ Three Filipino Adolescents, Three Heroes


● Gregorio del Pilar (“Goyong,” “Boy General”)
- was fondly called by his family as “Goyong” and eventually referred to by his fellow
revolutionaries as “Boy General” for being the youngest ever to be commissioned as such by
the Filipino revolutionary forces that fought the Spaniards and the Americans.
● Edgar Jopson (“Edjop”)
- was born on September 1, 1948, to middle-class parents in Sampaloc, Manila. He was an
active high school student, joining organizations such as the Ateneo Catechetical Instruction
League, Solidarity of Mary, and the Student Catholic Action. During the martial law years
under former President Marcos, he became a moderate activist.
● Efren Peñaflorida (“Efren”)
- started an organization called Dynamic Teen Company comprised of his fellow students to
keep adolescents like him away from trouble when he was just 16 years old. He was known
for his innovative project “pushcart classroom,” also termed locally as the “kariton
classroom.”

IV. ABSTRACTION/ACTIVITY
A. Answer the question:
- How can you as an adolescent balance the expectations of the significant people (parents,
siblings, friends, teachers, community leaders) in your life and your personal aspirations?

1. What particular challenges did this man face?
2. What did he do to take on the challenge?
